The thing is closed headphones do the job too, so long as they actually take noise insulation seriously. Some "closed" headphones are semi-open or just straight up do a mediocre job of insulating sound even if the sound quality is good.
I'd try it, but I feel like I'll never have a situation to try it. Almost all the environments I'm in are quiet and no one I know owns them :P

I just put my headphones on my chair. Like, I turn them sideways and slide them on the top of it. Never tripped over the cord.
