Quote from Tally;1146752:
What you're assuming is a perfect AoE party. Puppeteer who can crisis the whole room, archer with reforged crash shot, etc. You don't always get the perfect party. Sometimes you don't even get a puppeteer to join your elite OA. Sometimes you get the guy who windmills everything away. Point is, these arguments are best case scenario. Not everyone has every skill at r1, and most people don't have the money for reforges. It also ignores that this skill would see a great use in boss fights, where it could see its full damage potential.
I'm actually assuming solo; I typically solo missions and kill waves before hydra would be of any use so I would find it useful. You could say that not everyone has the stats/skills/equips that i have, but it's been established we're arguing about endgame which is what I have and beyond.
Your argument also ignores the magic def/prot reduction, which is unprecedented, if I recall. This may not support the majority of the classes, but it certainly supports you and your mage friend. Assuming you are running a mission solo or going commercing/bandit hunting, this part especially will be a great help to you, because most, if not all, alchemic skills deal magic damage, if mana deflector is any indicator. The bleed damage is a bonus, of course. One that can amount to a large contribution over long fights.
I did mention that it would be useful in MA. The point being that in most places it isn't necessary; as little time as it takes up to set up a hydra, it's wasted if you don't need it. I was thinking about future updates, but for the new dungeons the rooms are so big that hydra would miss most mobs. I'm sure MA isn't the
only place where you could use this, such as certain bosses, but there isn't a great deal of content which can utilize it. This makes the skill situational, as much as I hate that word.
I can see the argument, of course. Burst AoE is a such a large force in the game right now that it might appear hard to fit in everything else. But what has been discussed is situations where everything is optimized, but we are also talking about a game. The optimal way to play the game might not always be fun.
I can't argue for what is and isn't fun, just what is effective and what isn't. There's nothing wrong with being ineffective (at least most the time), but it is what it is.
