Even if that was the case, there's always plenty of fresh new blood and fish in the sea to rope in to replace the veterans who are leaving. MMO's rely on fresh blood to rope in and sucker into coughing up some cash anyways.
That's true too. XD
Well, they'd probably be better at it if they actually advertised or something to make the game known. >_<

To be perfectly honest, Mabi's appeal never was the graphics but it's unique gameplay (rebirthing system and the fact that you are not forced to adhere to a specific class/tier structure. Plus it's unique combat system)
Of course it's strengths is also some of it's biggest flaws.

I like this though I find it annoying that a little less than 1/3 of my total level would now be considered "beginner" even though I've been off/on mabi since the opening day...

Well the issue with advertizing to get new players is, what would they advertize? There's nothing particularly new to the game than its been for years, and there isn't much making the game unique compared to other games that isn't being watered down.
Rebirth system, its becoming more frequent and less relevant as most of the AP over a lvl 1k~5k player's AP is from events and dailies, rather than leveling.
Combat system became less timing and stun based on genesis and is now more- autotmatic. The whole classless idea kind of went out the window when Elves and Giants came out and almost went even further out with Destinies but the way Destinies and later Talents ended up doesn't undermine the uniqueness of Mabinogi like classes do, but it also isn't a unique concept.
Life skills, the main reason I liked Mabinogi at least, are kind of outdated. People don't even use skills like Tailoring anymore, and skills like Blacksmithing are barely alive. Other skill like Enchanting are way too strict and harsh. Other skills like Winemaking are too easy and completely useless, Winemaking does not effect making wine, all it does is give stats and a master title. Skills like Magic Craft and Engineering, I moreso see as fad-skills. Popular for a short time to keep us interested then to be forgotten until 6 months later they add 2~5 new recipes to each then stop again.
I don't really think existing content is anything to brag about in ads, not that they're not fun. And there isn't anything new about the game to advertize either. They would need a serious overall revamp like a graphics and engine revamp to make news, but that costs a lot of money and time, and frankly, seeing how Mabinogi 2 was cancelled because they don't think they can make money on their market, I don't really think they have a surplus of supplies and manpower.
What would they advertize? There are these meaningless ads on some websites for NA Mabinogi which don't really help to be honest, because of the points I previously made.

They could do like every other MMO is doing nowadays and just show Nao's or Rua's hot bod(focusing on the chest and hips) for an ad...
Ok not really, but I think this game has way more to advertise than other games do... There's just too many features that Mabi has that others don't. I know a lot of my friends are into music, so the vocaloid and diva update really got them wanting to play. I think even if the feature is old, as long as it's something people like, it's still worth showing in an ad.
I know it doesn't apply to everyone, but for me, the main things attracting me to Mabinogi were the anime graphics that aren't quite "chibi", fashionogi, and the whole idea of freedom and being able to do almost anything you want on a single character. xD Basically, everything that makes the game not require combat to have fun playing.
The combat took me awhile to get used to, and wasn't really until Genesis that I really started to enjoy combat, since it made the combat feel more "real time", and less like a frustrating guessing game/Russian roulette.
I think that a lot of people who joined before Genesis might have felt the same frustrations I did and ended up not coming back because of that, so advertising the combat change from Genesis is a good idea.
I know a lot of people will be like, "Noobs don't bother to learn how to combat in Mabinogi" or "New players are so spoiled", but...
You can't really blame new players for being frustrated with the old battle system either, because it took a lot of learning to do, and there weren't really any technical combat tutorials back then. If a person had no friends, they would probably take a long time to figure it out, if they even played that long.

Wait, hold on. So I'm lvl 470 right now. As long as I don't lvl over 1k by then, I can reset all my skills..?

Assuming we get the beginner update and you have never had a 1k total char on your account (even if its deleted), then yes, you should be able to reset your skill ranks manually. (Note that having 1k exploration total also counts as over 1k, but now days its more likely your regular level exceeds the beginner cap than the exploration.)

Since the character capp is increased , will we still use the same lobby area for our characters?

Yes, that hasn't changed any.

And here I thought being over 1k was a good thing. I could use a total skill reset. Well, assuming we keep the exp like with a reset capsule. Wouldn't want to have to train everything again.

This thread has nothing to do with that, but yea, even before the update, having like 20 characters on your screen gets really squished. If they consider that fine and not yet worthy of a larger or different character selection method, I doubt adding a few dozen more will make a difference. After all, people can pick their favorites which just decides which of your characters/pets show up in selection and which are only available in summoning.

Yea, it should be the same as reseting your skills below 100 like before. It just returns your AP and maintains your progress up until the rank you are at, and iirc it doesn't keep progress of your current rank before the update (of course, you don't lose master titles if you were at r1).

Well, it doesn't really matter to me either way, I'm long past 1k. Lol. Maybe if we get this they'll have a special promotion or something where for like, a few days or a day or something EVERYONE can do it.

Sorry for reviving an old topic.
I was looking trough the translations in NA's client, since JP just got the AP update.
I noticed NA has rewards for Novice, Naive, Advanced and Expert, while the main topic doesn't include novice but master.
Does JP have the same AP rewards as KR's update, or does NA get a mild version (aka u only need expert for all ap)
It seems the journal points are the same as in KR though, So I'd assume it's still the same amount of AP gain, but easier?
