Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 300 strength 300/3.5 = 85 max damage, which is * 6 for a 2h smash = 510 damage? On a crit, that'd be an additional 1275 damage. If I'm critsmashing 8k, that's a 15% increase in damage there. That's certainly substantial, but the AP cost would be about 2000 AP - it seems like there might be greater gains that I could make with that much AP, and I doubt that what's holding me back is just a 15% difference.
How're 20k smashes with lances like that possible? I've maxed the majority of my combat skills; It still doesn't sound reasonable without reforges.
Thanks!
Iir str formula is 2.5 str=1 max. Piercing reduces prot by a lot allowing for multiplied max at that point. And Thames plate adds a multiplicative 15% smash dmg onto the smash multiplier.
@king honestly dont know since it's not my forte but ive seen a couple humans claim they have 1k str untransed (one of which was a guildee so I'm inclined to believe their not lieing).

It's possible because:
1) r5 2-handed weapon like a lance
2) Having 650+ damage
3) You crit
That's all there is to it. no other magic involved. Giants can crit that 20k smash a lot easier.
@pure I have 642 strength (almost 10k total) and have maxed out my melee and have r5 carpentry. Where the heck are you pulling 1k strength from? Giant standards or human/elf standards? (I'm also Master Warrior and Master Knight)
Had forgotten about red ups because of the absurd prot that you start to see in later SM levels; That makes sense.

Accd to wiki, 3.5 str = 1 max. Thanks for the info regarding the gear :D
In that case, what could I put AP into now for the most respectable short term difference, then?

Current Human Total: 559 + 143(702) (Talent) + 30(732) (Grandmaster Warrior) Strength
Capped human str at level 1/1 with no age bonus... 1k str isn't unreasonable but maybe I should lower that to 800 (talking leveled up btw...)

I'm going to have to go with that being from food buffs or going crazy with strength enchants when it would probably be wise to do max damage enchants instead.
As for end game I would ballpark around 600 strength because at that level with lances no content is a challenge. Anything above that is overkill.

I can see that an R up'd lance of equal quality would be a superior weapon, but I'm pretty attached to the sword that I've got now (it's got a bit of a history with me) and would like to be powerful independent of any particular weapon/stick with what I have. It sounds like there's a point where content is trivial anyways, so it's not unfeasible but may take more time. Keeping that in mind, what exactly should I do now?
Thank you so much for your advice, feeling pretty inspired about improving now thanks to you guys :)

Thames armor, max dmg enchants, reforges other than elemental, and str is really all u can do.
Btw, just checked wiki: When equipped with any Melee Weapon except for Control Bars, Every 2.5 Str will add +1 to Maximum Damage; 3 Str adds +1 to Minimum Damage.
Not sure wat u were looking at but the formula is 2.5 str per max....

Gotcha - crit improvements were also mentioned earlier to better cope with higher protection mobs. Would you put the crit or the str first?
May have seen the control bar bit while skimming, sorry about that. You were right, 2.5/max. Thanks :D

Up to u I guess... I ranked fighter cause I enjoyed it, and the crit flowed with it.... You should definitely balance both, but don't dedicate too much of ur gear to crit as u can get all the crit u need from stats eventually....

Gotcha, thanks!
Does anyone else have anything to add? The input's been really helpful so far and I appreciate it!

Ah, thanks :) Will do.
Not sure whether to begin on str or luck first.
On a side note, what's the general consensus on how viable each skilltab is right now for endgame PvE?

Luck isnt hard to get but cost alot of Ap Str is Harder to get depending on the Skills also

Puppets are OP as heck so I think they are at top followed by archery and then lance melee. Although endgame magic is EXTREMELY good but very expensive AP and money wise (as well as needing tons of MP pots to use).

Well will every 20 = 1 Crit While Luck every 5=1 Crit I would Focus on Finsihing Fighter for a Subset and crit and slowly getting more Str Mage also Eats alot ur CP Pupppets is more of a Class for People who Hybrid range and Melee
