you were probably comparing them wrong.i already did a test before here 2h should have an upperhand there but it only beats dual wield by what 1k then dualwield would deal more with wm,non crit wm and non crit smash.cost of those two weapons is day and night.
You gotta admit though, lances do outclass both.
And the bad thing about dual wielding is that you gotta invest in two swords instead of one. Potentially double or more the cost of reforging a 2h weapon.
The maximum damage output can be found out for your example. For dual wielding case, it's as follows: [(Base damage) + (First weapon damage) + (Second weapon damage)] x % Multiplier of corresponding skill. In your example, Base damage would have been 643 - 175 (average beam sword damage) - 8 (arbitrary factor) = 460. There's sword mastery too, and the base damage already has that. So (460 + 180 + 170) x 5.5 (50% bonus from your reforge) x 2.5 x 1.22 = 13587.75, which is actually lower than your screenshot. Probably minor error somewhere, but for dual wielding, you pretty much hit the peak of your smash damage there.
For your HLC case, 589 x 6 x 1.55 x 3 = 16433.1, meaning your smash wasn't really close to your potential highest damage.
So it's actually more of a 3k difference. Whether this is big difference to you or not is each to their own. I think it's significant enough.
As another main melee player, I haven't touched dual wielding for almost about a year, and sold my battles away with one still rotting in my personal tab. If I don't use lance, chance is, I'll be using my HLC for my melee.
