I really really dont wanna come off as disrespectful, and I mean this with utmost respect to the OP and everyone in this thread-- but this isnt helpful. I dont mean the thread's purpose, I mean the content. I've combed throw all the pages and found a whopping total of: 1 low tier set (for giants, so useless for most of us), 2 mid tier sets (one is for commerce, so...), 1 high tier set, and an unthinkable amount of master tier sets.
Really guys? This is less of a "Let's make a helpful equipment guide for people new to equipment" and more of a "Post your wet dream equipment that'll take eternity to get and is not helpful to the 99%"...
I was referred to this thread by a member, and I REALLY dont wanna come off as disrespectful but I'm bad with wording negative messages in a polite way, but this isnt helping me (or likely anyone) learn.
I also think having a field for "I chose this equipment because:" would really help so that people could say "I chose this particular equipment because this helmet gives yadda yadda yah and this glove gives blah blah blah, etc." yaknow? That way its easier to see the reason behind equipment if you aren't familiar with equipment (thats what the thread is for, no?)
Again, I really dont wanna be disrespectful to the efforts put in, but as a noobie player looking at the OP and title expecting this to be a thread where I could learn about equips relevant to me or realistic players, I was not expecting a "Post your dream equips with no given reason so that newbies have no chance to understand" thread...
But yeah, again; no disrespect. I just thought this thread would help but its been proving to be quite misleading... There aren't many resources to learn how to pick a set of equipment, so its a shame to see this the way it is.
Again, no disrespect.

A lot of the more active and vocal members of this community are very high leveled and experienced, so that's why you're seeing only end-game sets being listed. The game has changed so much from when a lot of the community started playing, so they don't really know what the best beginning-mid game gear is anymore.
So many new enchants, upgrades, weapons etc. have been released.
When I first saw this thread I could tell that the majority of equipment setups would be end-game.
Give it a couple of months, give other members a chance to experiment and learn what is available at what levels, what the current enchants are, all that jazz and this thread will likely be full of information.

100% the ass-backwards mentality of a lot of this forum when a casual seeks guidance to improve lol.

Well I can most definitely understand that now that you bring it up, but a lot of sets that are being put up are unrealistic even to end game players since it's constantly brought up atleast every page or two that some sets are just unrealistic.
Though understandable. It seems I was referred to the wrong place. Does anyone know where I can maybe learn about picking equipment?

There used to be a guy called Transcendence that did exactly what this thread was about. He had what he called the "Royal" guides. They (the guides) detailed out enchants for a person, starting from low tier to what could be considered the medium between high and master tier. Sadly those guides no longer exist on the web; unless some people took them and made copies of them for personal use. Since then there has not been anything else that could fill that void those guides left, leading to a lack of easily accessible information. Now your best bet would be to just go onto mabinogi wiki and research what you need.
Also low tier for melee is extremely simple. Slap "fox" "giant" on everything and call it a day!

Except things get harder when my secondary is a mage, but that works xD Too bad transcendence isnt around any longer.

The current format works well for master-tier and high-tier, but is not getting any mid-tier attention, and definitely not workable not for low-tier. Upgrade stones, reforges, and likely enchants don't really have a place in low-tier.
The "low-tier" bracket could be best filled out by naming the most commonly-used weapon categories (like the couple of commonly-used swords and bows) and then stating why they're used over other weapons that shouldn't be used due to being plainly inferior. Otherwise newbies that don't know what to do are likely to make bad choices since they don't know what most stats really mean in Mabi versus other games.
(Despite Mabi's early attempts at balancing swords, for example, players who know what they're doing will go for a dual Battle Sword or Gladius in almost every situation since they objectively beat out options like a Dagger, but newbies might choose daggers, I've seen it a lot. Trading blows in Mabi is dangerous, you need to kill them before they get a chance to touch you, which influences a lot of combat and gear decisions, but newbies often don't get that since beginning monsters aren't too dangerous.)
Some examples would be why longbows will give you quicker aim times than shortbows, the basics of balance and making sure a weapon's balance doesn't drop too low via upgrades (remember, low-tier, these people often have <100 dex especially with heavy armor mastery), why max damage matters more than min (because of balance) and the importance of multiplier skills (smash/flash/windmill) determining which qualities in a weapon are important, and pointing out which weapons (that have these qualities) are easily available from NPCs.
Also note that low-level players can save a lot of gold by using the cheaper or even cheapest repair rates. The repair cost is not proportional to the success rate, and if a newbie is using a normal NPC weapon without any IRL money or serious time invested into it, then points off the max won't really matter because it's easily replaceable once the max drops low enough to be a problem (which actually can take a while even at 90%).
Then there's other topics I'd like to contribute, such as fomor weapons having cheaper ducat repairs than the normal equal's gold repairs (1/2th to 1/3rd or less) and they have +8 to their stats and +3 dura. Fomor weapons are great for newer players that don't mind commercing (42 ducats per point on a gladius is affordable to anybody that commerces even with a handcart), and the lack of ability to stone them doesn't matter as that's not a concern for newer players.
If I get time in the next few days I'll try to remember to post little explanations here now and then for low-tier for inclusion, though low-tier info might be best put into a guide to equipment for new players.
I'm actually moving tomorrow morning, so...
Also guys, show mid-tier some love. You may think that most people know about the Imp enchant for heavy armor (Rank A Suffix, +10 STR, +2 Def, +2 Prot with no additional requirements at all), but nope. There's some stuff that's relatively easy to find or obtain from other players that can be useful with no detraction (like that enchant not increasing repair rate or reducing stats) that a lot of players have no clue about. I mean nobody actually reads the enchant list, so write y'all's experience down, not your wants.

I've been monitoring this thread and taking notes but there are too many master and high tier.

A good low-mid tier bow is a fomor leather long bow, preferably one preenchanted with some mix of skilled, wolf hunters, raven, or sacrificial.

I'm currently making a guide on basic tier-mid tier- high tier for every skillset and race along with the reforges and encahnts that would be way more realistic. However its very general and its pretty subjective so it will take a bit....

I tried doing that a while back. I ended giving up after completing for melee and range, but kind of wanna see what you come up with.

On the few Mid-Tier weapons I see on this thread, almost all of them include ele 2 weapons.
I have to say, I disagree with ele 2 being Mid-Tier.
I mean, what are the chances that someone will get ele 2 on their weapon with an NPC reforge?
After that, they'd have to spend 200k~ (at least on my server) for each reforge until they get an ele 2 (Unless they buy them via NX).
I think that's a little bit too costly for even Mid-Tier.
I believe any elemental reforges should be on High-Tier.

NPC reforging something like battle swords isnt very costly, getting elemental 2 shouldnt cost more than a mill. Mid tier people should have at least a couple mill at that point in the game. Beginner tier? Ya maybe ele 2 is a bit much, but mid tier should definitely be able to afford it.

I think Ele 6+ should be considered high-tier.
