As of late Nexon has been dropping in quality of content and quantity of content. This is mostly related to events allowing players to somehow repeat for far more times than is intended such as using alts for the dressing room event/treasure hunt/caravan joe and double rebirths for DR/3x AP. It is also related to other bugs like mobs getting stuck, methods of destroying enemy AI, complete lack of player/mob balancing, and many more issues. Players seem to be genuinely content with exploiting a glitch for hours on end to advance their character a bit further or faster, to make a bit of extra gold. A lot of people simply thrive on it.
I've noticed this getting more and more common over the years; less people care about how credible their account is or how much fun they have, and more people are treating Mabinogi like a job in which they're trying to climb a corporate ladder. A lot of people don't seem to care that all of the strongest people are backed by at least 1,000,000 NX in reforges, AOE pets, and rebirth cards. I've seen a lot people close to me feel insecure that they aren't one-shotting mobs as fast as others.
Mabinogi is starting to be treated as a problem or a chore; players would rather grind NPC for 3 hours straight or grind the RP event they hate for seals than do things they find enjoyable or try new things. What happened to the sandbox? Nexon doesn't seem to care, but shouldn't the players care?

I agree.
I've noticed that this game been progressively losing it's touch, even ranking a skill to rank 1 doesn't feel rewarding anymore. Content as I feel is almost the same thing, especially
most mobs. Running "Hard" content countless times for a chance at getting something rare gets tiring and more of an annoyance, especially when you keep getting buttshit like Fireball crystals. Most recent events we've had don't even feel like a event, they feel like a chore, regardless of the events they give out.
This game is getting more and more easy, it's not even funny anymore, we have a skills that can drop/prevent monster aggro, skills that can buff us up effortlessly and just some skills we don't even need.
Another thing I don't like are skill training potions, whats the point of putting real effort into skills when you can just buy a rank?

I remember the days when rank 6 smash was badass.
It's been a long time since I had that much fun on Mabinogi, and ranking skills to rank 1 just don't seem to feel like much as Tropa said. This game was great when it first came out, I guess because it was new or perhaps it was more challenging compared to everyones skill level. I'm sure there are plenty of people who still have fun in the game, but most of them are probably not the endgame players who still play the game because of their commitment to it, lack of something better to do, hopes things will change, or something else entirely. I played the game for many years convinced it was fun, and for some time even after I stopped being convinced of that. I've accomplished many things, but none were as fun as getting rank 6 skills or clearing ciar adv with my friends way back in the day.
I don't think the game will go back or has any potential to go back to what it was. It can only go forward of course. I doubt Mabinogi will ever have, to me, that carefree fun experience that I used to know, again. Yet, I continue to login and see the lackluster updates and struggles of guildies trying to keep up, though I only do this to chit chat with my closer friends (who lately have also stopped logging in).

I haven't really been interested in playing on NA for quite some time outside of the occasional update that comes out. I just don't have any motivation to play especially as more engaging games have now caught my attention which has a lot more higher end content. I have ranked all the important stuff there is to rank and all that is left is to rank things for the hell of it just to complete everything. That has gotten extremely dull and boring and I cannot find any joy or fun in it.
On top of that, there currently is no story to keep my engaged and no story that requires a higher set of skills than I already posses. The game I'm currently playing has a ton of story potential that is well thought out and actually requires higher stats and skills than I currently posses, thus giving me the drive needed to keep and catch my interest. Something Mabinogi sorely lacks in.
It's a shame it's gotten to this point, I'm keeping an eye on KR in hopes that something engaging comes out but I just keep getting disappointed with every passing month as they've gone back to padding with events and gach's.
Only thing that would get me back to playing in NA is Season 2 of the Saga so I can finally see what the heck is going on, do it and then go back into my deep slumber. For me, plot and storyline is one of the core necessary things to captivate me and pull me into a game. Without an engaging storyline, it's not going to tickle my fancy for long.

This is acctually a good reason why i left. It reminds me more of an addiction concerning rebirth cards and reforges where you waste money on the game as a need to get better. Similiar to a smokeing or alcohol addiction. Stopped before i became a hobo.

I'm suddenly remembering something that somebody on youtube said a while back... "the elusive r1 smash".

Well trying new things is a moot point once you have done everything in the game. A lot of new players that I meet are sometimes amazed at how big this game is...that is until they realize that a good portion of this game world has NOTHING to do in it. Iria and many parts of uladh are good examples. Add to the fact that dungeons, which are normally a large part of other MMOs, haven't received a major update in a long time (I don't count abyss). I mean there is just a lack of overall content compared to the other games out there or that will be soon coming out.
That said Destiny looks amazing *-*

It is because some of you guys have been playing this game way too long. You will most likely feel the same way on any MMORPG if you play long enough.

If people "just quit" when they didn't like how Nexon operated, Mabinogi would have died a very long time ago.
...or you're just trolling, in which case "shoo".

Mabinogi has always had lackluster content quantity/quality. I remember back when Ciar Basic/Advance was the only dungeon that anyone ran. I also remember when Defeat the Shadow Wizard and similar shadow missions replaced Ciar as the defacto content. Those missions continue to be the only content which anyone seriously runs to this day. NPC and raids are the only viable alternatives, though the latter could be cleared effectively by a monkey.
No content in Mabinogi requires items awarded through missions or quests in order to be effectively completed. The best dungeon/mission drops are bested by gachapon and lame ass events. What few items potentially counter the aforementioned game destroyers are completely unnecessary, have a terrible drop rate, and probably require a NX investment to properly use anyway.
The only other MMO which i've played was Runescape and it had a slew of higher quality content which definitely bested anything Mabinogi has to offer. If only it had Mabinogi's combat and skill systems, I might go back.

Sadly that's the MMO I am now devoting all my attention to. When I first joined Mabinogi it reminded me of Runescape in all honesty. Mabinogi and Runescape is the only two MMO's I can think of that has more than just combat in them and have very extensive non combat skills and minigames.

I just started playing Mabinogi, and I play it as something else entirely: A fun little thing to derp around in, hang out with friends, do cool things, have some laughs. I don't know how dedicated I'll be to it in the future, but for now, I just regard it as a timekiller to help me unwind after a stressful day. It may not be the best game I've seen, yet it provides a nice, pleasant distraction from the hustle-bustle of life.
I don't care if I'm getting outmatched by people who are pouring all of their money into this game. So long as it continues to have fun little getaways, I'll be content.
