Let me just say for the record that I am speaking as a relatively new player. As one who hasn't even gotten through all of the actual content yet, I find these add-ons to be quite nice. The fact that the beginner boosts are now per CHARACTER instead of per ACCOUNT is an absolute godsend, and the increase in max level fills me with the hope that, one day, my Magic skills will release their monopolistic hold over my AP. Hopefully.
But for the people who have already finished the Mainstream quests, I could understand the frustration at a profound lack of crap to do.

This is just my OCD nitpicking but for those of you calling this the "Free Rebirth Update", that was in G4 (rebirthing wasn't always free). This is the "Free Weekly Rebirth Update".
You used to have to pay to buy a card to rebirth period, no free rebirthing after age 20. Calling this the free rebirth update makes veterans feel like you don't acknowledge their hard work back when we weren't as privileged.
Huh... I guess a lot of new players didn't even know about it.
As for older ones, it's probably because of trying to make the name shorter (oh, that laziness ;) ).
But yeah... I do realize and acknowledge all the hard work people put into this game through all these years.

Before they implemented 'free rebirth at age 20' you
had to buy a card in order to rebirth, nothing was free back then. Before I went on my long hiatus, in total I bought like 15 cards and my ttl was only like 600 so veterans had to work hard to level because it wasn't so easy to level as how it is now

oh thanks for the info but imo its not much different to what mabi was before this update, almost everyone i know rbs weekly meaning payed, even i did 78 paid rbs to get to 10k thats why im calling it free since our only option to rb now is free and theres no other paid way to do it unless you want ace talents from what i hear.

It's making me consider returning to Mabi again.
I popped on and found some really cute eyes and mouths, however it seems to force me out of the maid hairstyle when I open the wardrobe. It's kind of sad, but that was the only thing keeping me from making a new character.
I may just make a new account, those free character cards seems tempting. I don't have much to lose on my old account, and I kind of want to take some other servers for a test drive. I've been on Mari forever, haha. (Is it nicer on other servers?)
Other than that, it seems they made the game easier for beginners, so I approve since I'm trying to get some of my friends into the game. I'm kind of excited to see what they have in store for the later updates. I hope it's more playable content.

Ace talents would disappear after rebirth anyway, though.
Or did your talent just magically disappear?

While the lack of endgame content disappoints me, the thing is that:
1: We're not more than 5% of the playerbase, at most. Most of the players are either trying to get to where they are or are casual players who would much rather pay 7m for a cute set of clothes than 35 reforges.
2: If you're not 4k or higher or don't have an endgame enchant/reforge set, existing content is actually still rather challenging.
The fact that people with 10,000-20,000 AP are bored, while problematic (and keep in mind that such players make up a wildly disproportionate ratio of the Mabination playerbase) simply doesn't really mean that much in the grand scheme of the game's health. From a purely profit perspective they're largely done paying, and that group is simply so small that there just isn't that much incentive to shove loads of high end content into the game.
If you want more challenge, then you should be asking for massive nerfs to certain skills (Crisis, BFO, Blaze, Raincasting, Lullaby, maybe Hydra) than asking DevCat to shove super hard content into the game. Of course, we should get more content just for variety's sake but the high end veteran players are just too small a group to get special treatment from DevCat.
From the standpoint of the health of the game, we should rejoice. DevCat and Nexon have fixed THE BIGGEST fundamental issue this game has had, which was the high barrier of entry that was rebirthing. New players will stick at a higher rate, old players who got stuck midstream might come back, and overall the game will be in a much better state. I think we can hold off the complaints that we don't have Nightmare Shadow Missions yet for a bit.

I'm pretty much seconding this. I think this update is extremely important for the health and future of the game's player base. I also love the new eyes and face options. Very much enjoying this patch.

I agree with you for the most part.
However, methinks we shouldn't be asking for "massive nerfs" to anything. There is no good reason to reduce our pool of viable tactics when we could instead limit their universal effectiveness. Several minor nerfs/buffs would be a better solution.
Also, update combo cards, make them permanent, and allow players to obtain reforges in-game (from lords/purification/abyss/etc).

Perfectio wrote on 2014-06-25 21:38
The reason why I say massive nerfs is because the game's difficulty is only markedly decreased by the abuse of a few overpowered tactics that really circumvent the fundamental mechanics of the game. Take out Crisis and MA is a lot harder (and Blaze is a lot worse at clearing mobs because you won't be able to position them all in one spot, though Blaze damage is still rather over the top at endgame especially since Blaze is the only magic skill that benefits massively from its reforge AND gets it on something other than the weapon), for example. Essentially all the tactics that rely on immobilizing enemies for a significant period of time with ease are all problematic and should be nerfed drastically.
Furthermore, nerfing the abuse cases prevents us from having to nerf damage output.

You should join Ruairi. :D
Well, truthfully it isn't as populated and player shops tend to be more expensive...
I think the population is the best, though. Channel 4 here has a good amount of people in most maps, yet isn't too crowded.
I hear Alexina has cheap player shops in comparison to others, but that it gets really crowded on events and stuff since most new players join it thinking it's still new.
When I tried Tarlach, it felt really empty.

^-- Considering now with the 6 classic cards.
I really like the update. Seems easy to start with a clean slate and get rolling again (where post-1k AP flow is more comfortable) without the year or so delay free players run into without rebirth cards. I get that it really does nothing for veterans, which is unfortunate. Maybe we'll see something for the vets in the next update (like the new rumored class?).

I think the rebirth system alone is really good for veterans, well unless they already have all of the skills they needed. XD
