Basically, Tumblr has thrown the whole gender situation ridiculously out of hand. Two genders was great. Three is ok I guess but it's pushing it. Four is just no. Then people on tumblr come along and invent 30 new genders. "I have a penis, but I wish I had boobs and one time I looked at a bug and thought antenna were cool, so now I'm my own gender because none of the previous 29 genders get to have bug antenna." "I have a vagina but I like to walk around with a strap-on on my head because that's how I think aliens would look, so I get to be my own gender now because none of the other genders have forehead penises." No. That's going way too far with the special snowflake bullshit. You are a man or a woman. Pick one. You don't need to totally re-write society just to make yourself feel special.

My post is slightly off-topic, but I feel it is pertinent to the thread.
The group therapy session about tumblr woes in a lot of threads recently has been really turning me away from even posting on Mabination anymore, despite reading often. But the reason I stick around is the same reason I'm posting this right now. The matter of that I won't generalize an entire website or group of people by the actions or words of a few, even if they are the loudest. The boards are a median filled with many different types and groups of people. It seems like such a simple concept to not make large scale generalizations, but many of the arguments posted recently, especially in regards to social and gender issues, are weakened by what seems to be a giant circle-jerk about Tumblr.
For example, while you might disagree with a mentality on 4Chan or Reddit, there are many areas of the websites that you will most likely find agreeable with your own perspectives and values. Tumblr is used as a median for many different things, I myself use it for my art and for pictures of delicious food.
I have friends who use it for writing.
I have friends who use it just to post pictures of things they like.
And there are people who use it as a social platform to discuss issues or identify themselves. Issues you might disagree with and identifications you might find silly. But that's no reason to decide to condemn an entire website or put yourself on a pedestal above someone else.
It comes off as degrading towards other fellow human beings rather than insightful as to why you feel a certain way about an action or mentality.
Instead of saying "Tumblr" in your arguments to try to strengthen your point, why not discuss specifics of what you're finding issue with, or a certain mentality of person, and leave the generalizations nearly akin to how some view race out of it.
Just some food for thought, I'd rather not derail this discussion further.
I'm not saying that sex isn't a big deal; all i'm saying is that sexuality is not a subject which you should force other people to respect. When I go to sign paperwork, there shouldn't be a "gender" block because whatever follows it is irrelevant due to the sheer diversity of the subject. I've even seen some people declare their sexuality as something that doesn't even fall within the standard definition of the word, encompassing other unrelated traits.
I'm picking on Tumblr because it's a shining example of progression beyond the tolerable threshold of social advancement. You shouldn't bitch and get emotional about shit that takes time to force on a large population. Perhaps we'll get there one day, but you have to be patient. I find it inconsiderate to get pissy when people fail to afford respect to a gender for which common folk have no knowledge.
I also understand that not everyone is like that on Tumblr (only a small but outspoken minority). I'm not talking about average Tumblr users, so get off your social warrior pedestal. Live to fight injustice another day.

LGBT. Perfectly fine.
Adding extra acronyms faster than the "normal" people can understand it actually makes it worse.
The people i work with think gays and the such are incredibly self righteous, and hearing their arguments... Well i don't agree, but goddamn they make a good point. 1 year ago we were doing pretty well, now it's trying to snowball faster. We as a society cannot handle this. You have to wait until every internetless person dies.
And there's some hypocritical shit in this thread considering certain people's pasts, and for that, i am peacing the fuck out.
But i don't feel pressured by males or females to perform my "role" which i don't mind.
Edit: holy shit me and Kaeporo are on the same page. Social Progression.

I would agree talking about the 7th or 10th gender is a waste of time and that not every crazy idea needs to be fully respected like we're in magical pony unicorn rainbow land jsut because someone would pout otherwise, but that's probably not the point.
But then again as far as I can tell transsexuality or not according to sexual norms is not an issue with most members here (
i.e. they probably won't turn onto others for wanting to become a stay-at-home-dad or replace their genitals) so talking about it here like it's a problem to be solved may not be the most productive activity, and people may get tired of it because they're constantly reminded of the most vocal, irrational and overbearing elements of the social justice crowd. Not a perfectly rational response, but fully expectable.

I'm not sure about that. Can you repeat some of the arguments here or in a PM? I rather think it may
sound convincing but turns out to be rubbish at a closer inspection.

There may be disagreement am,ongst members on whether it's perfectly normal or a (tolerable) medical condition, but transsexuals won't find much opposition here I think. I think we have a handful here, but I only know for sure about two. I haven't seen Cynic in a while though.

Involves other topics that are moderately antiquated, such as religion, i know better than to talk about religion.

Well if it involves religion then they probably don't really make good points, lol.

Hence. Waiting for internetless people to pass on.
Religion is still huge you know.

1. Get married.
2. Have babies.
3. Cook for my man to keep him happy.
Because, you know, religion. Everyone around me keeps telling me I'll eventually want kids. Nah, man. Nah... And my food is mine. 8(
At least I got more opportunities to learn than my mom did.

Two sides of a coin. It's not necessarily religion.
Plenty of people think that women doing housewife things is horrible and taboo and abusive and it's not. Some of us do it because we like to see our man /happy/ because doing nice thing for people makes them happy.

Hmm, never really got into much about Tumblr other than certain "stories".
But I think, from what I've read, that they're over complicating things. Though I don't judge them for that, I mean I do that too sometimes.
More on-topic:
I haven't really met many 'expectations' where I am. Most people just want to get moving along. Closest to an expectation is getting a job to support a family one day and whatnot from my school teachers, and counselors and maybe finding some girl to marry with for the rest of my life before I'm "too old". Maybe it's just I'm young and not really exposed to many of the things 'out-there', luckily I have an idea of what does lie there.

I don't understand why people don't want kids. :( I mean I already know I'd be pretty frustrated by the toddlers screaming and being stupid all about me, but I still want kids.

I don't understand why people want kids.
Most people describe the magic of parenthood like it's some kind of Harry Potter shit.

I can definitely understand both sides of it. Some people don't really have the temperament for it to begin with, and kids can for sure be really difficult and stressful, but at the same time, the idea of really being able to contribute to the development of a life and see them grow is something that I think is really appealing. The shift in priority in one's self to something other than yourself is also an experience that I think makes a person grow.
Tho, personally I'm gradually getting into a situation where I won't be able to have kids outside of adoption. I might try to do that tho someday, down the line when I'm living a stable life and more mature.
