I've never really found gender identification be important, so naturally I'm irritated when people start wanting to be classified as 3rd or 4th genders based on how they feel rather than their physical reality. This is the 21st century; you don't need to say you're a girl to play with Barbie dolls even if people think you're weird for it, nor will saying you are help your case. Girls don't have dicks, but effeminate guys do and there's nothing wrong with that. There are some anomalies such as hermaphrodites which have valid physical reasons to say they aren't male nor female, but that's something different entirely.
People would call me a liar if I said I was tall when I was in reality short, and I don't see reason to erroneously declare sex either. If someone tries to use sex to define you as someone you are not then you cannot resign to another more convenient sex, you fight it or simply defy their expectations. We don't need to confine ourselves to presumptuous labels associated to truths, and I won't. I'm a guy for no other reason then my body, even if I were to display stereotypical male actions or interests.

Being transgender; ie, your mental gender not matching your physical gender, is an actual medically and scientifically explainable diagnosis. While it may seem like this isn't a big deal to people who haven't experienced it, the disassociation with your own body that comes with this is incredibly hard to deal with, and tends to cause major depression. You can't just ignore it.
Some people have to identify other than their physically assigned gender to even be able to deal with being alive. In the case of this being a medical and psychological issue, the obvious solution is to change your physical self to match.. which is much easier said than done.
Don't let the odd random other gender identities you may have seen in various extremes downplay the very real issue that this is. Maybe you feel more comfortable disregarding gender, maybe you don't feel like you have expectations based on it, but some people aren't capable of living that way, and are forced to confront the clash in expectations people have of them when they try to be honest with themselves as they feel they are.
You don't think about the expectations people have of you, when you've had them as long as you've had. You don't think about how they'd change if you woke up one morning in a different body.
You tell people you're not the gender you were assigned at birth. You get treated differently. Some people don't accept it, some people are supportive.
Even those that are supportive; 'Oh now you gotta do this thing; if you're gonna be this gender, you have to be into this thing.'
They only mean well, they want you to feel like you're included, they want you to feel like you're that gender.
But those are expectations too, their expectations of what it means to be a man, to be a woman.
And some people will be disgusted for going against those expectations.
Positive or negative, it all just becomes a reminder of the fact that who you are inside doesn't match what people see. It might never match. You have to completely shatter everything you know to even hope for a chance of matching. People will treat you like you've died. They act like you're killing who you are, because you're 'killing' the person they always knew and saw you as.
But if you do nothing, you just feel like an actor, a liar, and empty shell just trying to make the daily routine work. Your mental state wears away.
This fear is real. It's crippling, and it engulfs you. The anxiety and stress piles up beyond what you can handle.
Sure, maybe some dumbass wants to claim their gender is a lizard or some stupid thing like that. But don't you dare let that idea undermine how important this is to people who have to deal with it in real life. Because they can't live otherwise.

I think Tumblr is going at this the wrong way. We shouldn't be inventing more genders because gender leads to gender expectation. 30 genders just means 30 different kinds of conformity you can now pick from. I suppose eventually you will invent enough genders that everyone is covered but I agree with Kaeporo, we should just abolish existing gender expectation.

The reason people are picking on tumblr is because what they've done with gender is simply ridiculous, if you've seen all the genders that they have created, please tell me it's not idiotic. But on the other hand, I do think it raises a valid aspect of gender identification as a whole, which I would say is the whole thing is stupid. Why? Because we don't need to create roles for you to fit in, you're a person, and there's nothing you have to do, or can't do, and creating numerous different 'genders' beyond what we already have is counter-productive. Our society tries to label EVERYTHING, they find it necessary for whatever reason, and that's certainly not what we should be working towards.

As i have said before though. Society is not ready, probably in another 100-200 years though, think about slavery, the founding fathers all saw it was moderately wrong, but there could be no change. Or civil rights, you had to have every single past slave owner and possibly their sons pass away before the new ideas could surface and flourish.
Just because the internet moves at light speed doesnt mean everyone else does. When people read tumblr and other blogs, they start to develop superiority complexes, that's where most of people's problems lie.

Actually we are moving faster culturally than before. New media brings about faster cultural integrations. So probably another decade top.

I'm not talking about the 30 gender bs I'm talking about not matching your physical self even just in the gender binary. If you think that actually is weak minded, fuck you, I don't have any nicer way to put that.

the weak minded part is that you seriously think you're going to
die if you are stuck in a body you don't associate yourself with. If you're seriously so anxious and depressed over something this petty, the transformation is genuinely a crutch for you and you have some deep, serious issues dude.

That is an excuse to be an ass how? Obviously there's some sort of issue if you feel so detached from your very own body, that doesn't mean it warrants ridicule.
Do you even comprehend that the way you say things affects how it's received?

It's not fucking petty when the chemicals in your brain don't match the ones in your body, it's not just some thing people made up, like I said.
And of course you don't just up and die, you kill yourself.
Seriously, I've been pretty frustrated on here in general lately but you're by far the most insensitive one I've had to see so far.

i do not sugar coat the truth
however, i will say this as bluntly as possible
1. you're using your own emotional instability to support your argument, you are not speaking for anyone but yourself
2. I'm not being insensitive, I'm saying that you clearly have some kind of emotional problem and whether or not you associate yourself with a different gender will not change the fact you have an emotional problem, thats y i say transgender=crutch
3. i have a hard time tolerating anyone who absorbs them self in this much self pity

You're ruling out that emotional problems are caused entirely by being transgender. This isn't about self pity. Part of the problem is people like you who think it's not a real issue.
That aside, I'm not citing personal emotional stability, I'm citing the issues thousands of people have dealt with. And what I mentioned was mild, I didn't include the acts of violence against them, and the way people treat them.
Not to mention people that just think they're using it as a crutch. Do some actual research on the issue. I don't even get what you're basing your statements on.

I think you're using it as a crutch, and your post made it pretty obvious. |:
People deal with bull shit everyday, even more harassment than a lot of transgenders might complain about. The ones who aren't saying "I will kill myself" and to quote it
This fear is real. It's crippling, and it engulfs you. The anxiety and stress piles up beyond what you can handle.
are the stronger minded people, it's an undeniable fact. You cannot blame your environment for your own personal feelings, you need to learn how to control and handle them in a mature fashion. Survival of the fittest, m8, everyone has to adapt. It is upsetting to hear about people actually killing themselves or letting themself suffer from severe depression because they cannot manage to find a way to control their negative emotions properly.

Because feeling those feelings and admitting to those feelings means you aren't dealing with it in a mature fashion? I'm not sitting in my room wallowing all day, hoping it's gonna go away. I'm taking action to change my life for the better and get into a place where I'm comfortable with myself and live happily. What exactly is more strong willed and mature than that, in this situation?
All I'm saying, is you have no respect for a real issue, and that's what lacks maturity.
As for 'more harassment'.. that depends entirely on how well you pass. If you don't.. then it's far worse, unless you're lucky enough to be in an accepting community. Most people aren't that lucky.
