I mostly want spirit weapons to be blessable, because good god durability issues. But then there's an *ahem* pay2win option...
The weapons themselves and Spirit Weapon Awakening definitely needs a massive buff though. I wouldn't mind if Special Upgrades could be applied to the weapon (a fail to rank 6 could cause a full derank back to 0 instead of destroying the weapon).
Here's my current stance on spirit weapons. If someone can make a good argument, i'll consider switching sides.
Remove spirit weapons? No. They can't be "bought" and you can only have "one".
Buff Spirit Awakening? Yes. It scales horribly and affords no utility.
- The cooldown or energy manifestation should be removed but not both.
-- Physical variants should obtain the bulk of their damage from a skill multiplier.
-- Magical variants need a more creative solution.
Buff spirit weapons? Variable. All sans V1 wands and possibly the tower/EQ cylinder should probably see some sort of buff.
- Critical damage may be viable. I wouldn't go beyond the equivalent of special upgrade bonuses.
- Piercing should not be added. That shit is broken as hell and should be nerfed down to 3~4%, if anything.
Spirit weapons wouldn't be in a horrible position (end-game) if they matched special upgrade bonuses.
Spirit Weapon Mastery? DevCat's go-to solution for balance issues. I can't see it working out here.
I ran a small test and Hidden Shield Stats (Physical Defense/Protection) are still factored into Mana Shield. JP Wiki mentions that MS still factors Magic Defense.
I know that auto-defense and hidden shield stats still factor into Mana Shield. I stand by my position that Mana Shield is perfectly fine where it's at.
