Could be chopped slightly closer in some places, but it's good enough for an MMO. Looking at where the path to Ciar would be, you can see that this map was just edited out of the original Tir.

Going from a single-threaded process to a multi-threaded process would require heavy engine modifications. As well, using new GPU features would require a rendering engine rewrite (some "basic" things like
wing transparency on dragons is a rendering hack and multi-layer clothing like the Lava Cat Robe uses a really old inefficient method for rendering).
Any sort of improvement would need a total rewrite of the game at this point, and that's about 17 Metric Buttloadsâ„¢ of effort.
