Superman's strength comes from the aura of solar energy. Before Vegeta became Super Saiyan, he could already create a moon. I'm pretty sure the ki blasts Goku in SS4 can use are stronger than the energy of the sun.

Quote from Phunkie;192757:
Goku's potential is limitless.
And his power grows quite exponentially.
Saiyan Saga to the Frieza Saga, for example. That boost to Super Saiyan just put him on a whole new other level. And his power kept growing while still just a Super Saiyan. In the Cell Saga, for example.
Every new SSJ transformation brings Goku to a whole new level and he still keeps on training and increasing his power.
I feel like Superman's growth in power is slower and more constant.
Also, try not to double post, haha.
Sorry about that, as I said, Goku reaches his limit when a new opponent appears, and he has to overcome them gaining a new limit till, Superman has yet to reach his limit, as he only adjust his power to suit the need. Superman is consistent, but the fact that he has yet to reach his limit says something.
Again I apologize, for the double post.
What I mean by using his laser eyes, as in seeing there molecular structure, and vaporizing them. Superman is no joke.

His power level was 500 million by the end of the series, and sayans have limitless potential as long as they keep recovering from near death experiences.
Since at 1000 you can easily destroy planets, I sadly must say that Goku has the edge over Superman.

Oh and let's not forget fusions... Goku could fuse with Vegeta, becoming
Vegito, the most powerful being throughout the entire DB/DBZ/DB:GT universe.

I'm pretty sure Goku could blow up the Sun if he wanted to.
And the man has crazy willpower! I've never seen Goku give up. Ever.
The only time he gave up was when he stopped his fight with Cell. But that was because he wanted his son Gohan to show his true potential. Nonetheless, he fights to the end and he's pretty skilled at it. Has been training in martial arts since he's been a kid and it's always training, always training.
Chi-Chi hates him for that. haha
Even in the Other World, he was training. Reached Super Saiyan 3! He would have destroyed Majin Vegeta had he gone SSJ 3 in that fight, but he wanted a fun fight. haha
Goku would destroy Superman.

We talk of Superman weakness, but lets see talk about Goku limits, he is stuck on sayian limits, such as space, drowning. Goku destroying the sun would be suicide for him. As I keep saying, we have a number for Goku power level, we don't for Superman because none of the story has yet to have someone reach his level, closests being to Darksied, Shazam, and Supergirl who's stronger than him. None of the kryptons power has been reached, that why I give my vote to the man of steel.

Goku didn't go SSJ3 vs Majin Vegeta because he didn't want to ruin Vegeta's pride.

Pretty sure Goku could just destroy the sun, kill the **** out of Superman then use the dragon balls to create a new sun.
Problem solved?

I think the point of the discussion isn't "could do this", "could do that", "weakness that", "dragonball to wish".
But rather "They fought. Straight on. Who wins?"
In which case I would have to say it depends on what part of the series goku fought superman.
If anywhere in the DBZ saga, I think Superman could win.
If late DBGT saga, Goku has an overwhelming advantage. He was at the point where he could toy around with a god who could make any wish come true.

Goku would have to destroy the sun and then have to go toe to toe for some time in order to beat superman till he loses the yellow sun radiation. The question then would be who would fall first, the guy who is damn near invulnerable to harsh environments, or the guy who can't survive under the most extreme environment?
I think the point of the discussion isn't "could do this", "could do that", "weakness that", "dragonball to wish".

The same could be said about Superman. Silver age Superman is stronger than the modern one

Theres also the discussion behind what type of superman we're talking about.

It isn't "They fought. Straight on. Who wins?" though. It's "Goku vs Superman, who wins?" And obviously we have to consider all things from both universes and what each could use to their advantage.
Obviously Goku's universe is clearly superior with dragon balls. He could wish the sun back, he could wish for a nice fancy Kryptonite outfit, he could wish for a Kryptonite sword, he could wish for immortality (like Garlic Jr).
Superman is just... really strong.
And I'm pretty sure Goku is faster than him without using instant transmission, not to mention probably quite a bit stronger.
In the end, it doesn't really matter because they wouldn't fight in the first place. They both want to protect the world and keep people from getting hurt. They're the good guys. They wouldn't fight one another.
It's pretty much going to go back and forth at this point I'm guessing because every point that can be brought up pretty much has, so it's just going to be complaining that <whoever your pick is> would win because <ignore all previous points> + <dismiss anything that would affect aforementioned outcome for no apparent reason>.

We could easily say Goku hasn't reached his limits, especially since he is still training, and Vegeta, Gohan, and Trunks can be his sparring partners, boosting him to new heights.

If that isn't Goku fighting in space, I don't know what is. I think this is from a filler episode, but since we're considering all incarnations of Superman, I don't know why we wouldn't include this either. I don't think Goku would drown, since he could just teleport somewhere else or fly out of the water.
Superman's invulnerability comes from the solar energy stored within his body. Goku's ki is more powerful than the energy from the sun, therefore he can damage Superman. I don't think Superman can touch him if he radiates enough ki.

I think that was just in like a really big room or something and not really space. Frieza did mention destroying the planet would kill him because he wouldn't be able to survive in space. But we did see a bunch of Saiyans in space above Planet Vegeta right before Frieza destroyed it.
But, Superman couldn't just destroy the planet because then it'd go completely against him wanting to protect the world.
