Saying the bible condemns it as a sin seems to be a huge deal for some reason...it's not like we aren't all sinners. I don't want to downplay sin by any means, just make sure people realize there's no one being singled out here.

By saying that being homosexual is fine, he is basically telling people that they do not have to repent and can continue to sin.

I haven't been in school for a long time and I'm sorry but religion doesn't work like that. Just because you think something is wrong or right doesn't mean that religion agrees.
And all that says is love your neighbor. You can love them and care about them. But that doesn't mean that a murderer or rapist isn't a sinner and going to hell in the end. And by that logic, the same applies to homosexuals.
It's not my religion, but that's how it's set up.

It's not my place to say who is or isn't going to heaven or hell. But, if I were asked to help understand how to go to one and not the other, I would point of the verses I quoted (Matt 22:36-40). Understanding those few lines will help you understand every action that can endanger your immortal soul.

However, I think Homosexuals are taking their loss of rights far too seriously if you compare them to another minority in the past, such as African Americans. They were rejected so much public necessities and took insults from others, but you don't really notice their suicidal thoughts. Like Tasha said, I don't think anyone really cares if they're homosexual, it's just when they start to brag and show off, it's annoying. As for a bishop saying it's okay to be gay, I think he really means you still have hope to repent for your sins and turn to God. Which means dumping homosexuality. Which is not a bad thing since you still have God's love, which is just as much as a lover of the same sex, spiritually. And yes you can, homosexuality is not a life-long decision, but a choice. If I recall correctly but our pastor said that homosexuality wasn't genetic. Another topic we discussed about was on that marijuana proposition thing, but that's not really related to this.

Homosexuals, unlike African-Americans, often do not have an adequate support structure to reinforce a feeling of self worth. I would imagine that if many African-Americans were insulted by family, friends, and their church, the places one would go to for support in a time of crisis, the rate of suicide among them would have been quite noticeable.
I'm pretty sure the comment was aimed at enslaved Africans and their children as African-Americans. What support structure what there that you claim they had?
Rather I thought it was aimed at the period from the end of the reconstruction in 1876 through to the 1970's and even extending to the present.
Why would you think that if the major fulcrum of the topic at hand is the Catholic church? Homosexuality goes back in human history much farther than 1876, and so does Catholicism.
Still I agree with you on the point that no loss of rights can be taken too seriously.
On a previously mentioned topic, if homosexuality itself isn't bad, but rather extramarital sex, how can a homosexual person abide by one's rules if one does not allow homosexual marriage?
