There's also incest and pedophilia, among other things, but I don't know how that is in Japan.. 8D
I think cousin-cousin relationships are accepted in Japan.

Technically legal. But it's overriden by prefecture laws. Not to mention, I think teachers are fired if they have romantic relationships with students.
D'ohohohoho. Underground Manga Society GO.
Visual and light novels are still good though, apparently. So Durarara and Mahoutsukai no Yoru is safe for now!
EDIT: Oh wait, looks like it covers games too. Goddamn.

Dang...this sucks...I was just getting into Anime and Manga too...
Does this mean that I just lost all hope of seeing any more Claymore books be translated into English?
*is up to Book 16 and hoping for more cause at the end of Book 16 it leaves it hanging*
American Television is going to lose a lot of variety now...we rely on Japan for our lulz and entertainment.
Do you think Pokemon would be banned too?

The goal of this bill is to "prevent minors for reading negatively influential works that lead to crime and sex".
Well this is true, right? Maybe instead of banning manga they should make it available for 18+ people. I do agree that manga (or any media) can negatively affect a child but maybe they're rushing things a bit.

NO WAI. Without manga...theres...nothing to live for! :no!:

I don't think so, last time I checked on Pokemon it was pretty much gutted like a fish for the kids. I don't think people actually get hurt or killed. However, the Rockets DO steal other people's Pokemon...does that count? Lol.
They get rid of the manga....its personal. TRANSFORMATION POWERS, ACTIVATE! FORM OF....A RAGING OTAKU! Ohwait. Don't need to transform for that. But yeah, RAGE.
There will always be a way to get good manga though, even if its underground. Honestly, I don't think someone would be thrown into jail for something so...not harmful to anyone else. Except maybe a possible papercut.
Sure kids are influential, but its the parents job to make sure they understand that its not real, and that these things shouldn't be imitated in the first place.

I'm not really worried about this.
One of two things will happen.
1) massive protest and economic effects that will cause them to have no choice but reverse the bill, or lighten up on it drastically.
2) Manga/anime stops being a japan thing (which leads back to the economic effects), no one notices anything except the japanese who no longer have it air/sold locally. Which would probably also lead to protests.
So unless you live in japan I don't think you have much to worry about in the long term. Short term you might have delayed/no releases for your favorite titles for some time but it'll either go indie/online or relocate out of japan for publishing.

Time for Japan to get their proxies on and read it online like the rest of us who are too stingy to buy the actual manga!
Oh wait... Then Japan will block it.
then they will make a new proxy.
Then when mangakens learn about this they will start charging per page online....
And then America will catch on....
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So wait....manga with clear sexual references will be.....made illegal? Or did I not comprehend this correctly?
Ill have tosay goodbye to:
Sekirei
Hetalia (the manga and web comics show clear sexual themes)
Bleach (the girl with a huge rack that's usually around Toushiro is a factor.Especially when she teases Ichigo by lifting her skirt very slowly =.=
And some others.
Edit: About Bleach, how Kon loves Rukia's chest o.o

This is completely STUPID. Seriously, there isn't any other word for it.
This bill actually kill every manga if you think about it. If you want a villain in a story the villain has to do something bad... If that's not allowed to show they what, tell in a bubble what the villain did that made him bad?
Seriously, STUPID all the way... >_>

Seems like that government forgot the whole point of fiction writing.
Guess we'll have to hope for the reaction of the people in Tokyo.

This blows my mind. This to me seems like them banning sushi from Japan. Manga/anime is their culture and though it may get a little crazy, it's recognized as wacky and messed up. :\
