Japan got hit with the Comic Code of Authority. Damn gonna take someone with balls to change the rules. Who's gonna be the equivalent of Marvel in Japan?

THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT IS 4KIDS!
But srsly, this would be like the Canadian government banning fights in hockey matches...

This blows my mind. This to me seems like them banning sushi from Japan. Manga/anime is their culture and though it may get a little crazy, it's recognized as wacky and messed up. :\
True. After WWII Japan was desperate to get a hold of their own culture. Now that they have things a bit more in line, it looks like they're ready to cut off the dead weight. Or as you put it, the wacky and messed up. This bill won't affect most Japanese citizens, but will devastate the otaku subculture... which I think is the agenda of the bill.

i wouldn't be surprised if theres a sudden riot, or major increase in rape or sexual demeaners in tokyo ... .... really... this bill is the stupidest thing I've ever heard i agree with Osayidan too.
They can't possibly keep this up cause anime/manga is probably one of their biggest market income and since theres so much arnt they like destroying themselves?

I have a guess that there will be an assassination with this.
But on aserious note; this bill probably won't last very long, there will be revolts :what:
Really, they aren't even real and it's fiction; this is ridiculous :fail:
JR would have made it; just one part with underage drinking :died:

Say Goodbye to anything Bones or Sunrise also.
BONES has got plentiful killing galore. Not to mention a fair few Ecchi.
Sunrise... Well they got Gundam. In which case most Gundams explode for some odd reason which means they're pilots are killed. Basically you could say most any manga that isn't along the lines of a Lucky Star type of show will be illegal. Hell even they're real life ones are gory beyond belief. School Days anyone?!?

Higurashi's main plot ended a long time ago. Not to mention it's a doujinwork.

I've been reading up on the bill (which means, the bill itself and educated opinions and analysis of the bill) and it seems to focus mainly on sex crime (as opposed to every crime, which most of you seem to believe.) These crimes include, but are not limited to, rape and incest. If you would seriously defend the inclusion of rape and incest in your manga, then I might personally question your character.
On that note, the only genre that really has a noticeable amount of the offending sex crimes is Boys Love. Outside of the sex crimes, the bill is not as damning as some people believe. Manga will just have to pass through an evaluation panel before hitting the shelves. Essentially, the government does not trust the publishers anymore and have chosen to regulate the market more closely.
I still don't think the impact of this is as large as people think, but it's still going to be noticeable.
[EDIT] The Bill's affects on Japan's youth outside of manga are a lot worse than the changes it has on the publishing industry.

Well if it truly is just targeting sex crimes and not attacking all manga that portrays sexy characters then this law isn't that big a major deal. I just hope that you are right and that they aren't going all crazy on it. Keep in mind, laws can be interpreted in many ways depending on how its written...like the health care bill...lord knows so many things can be taken as one thing or the other in that thing >.>

When it comes to rape and incest, I mean. There's still the clause about
"children under the age of 13 wholly or partially naked, or wearing swimwear or only underwear, published in books or featured in film" to be taken into consideration. But wait, that clause is completely overshadowed by the existing child pornography law of Japan which states
"any pose of a child [ages 0-17] wholly or partially naked, which arouses or stimulates the viewer’s sexual desire." as child pornography which is already banned. That being said, a lot of the bill is actually restating laws that are nothing new. It's just the government making an attempt to prevent the corruption of youth minds (feebly or not, that's your call.)
[EDIT] Since I'm actually at work, these posts are pretty rushed. I'll try and make my thoughts clearer later on. As kingofrunes mentioned, laws can be interpreted many different ways. I could label some of my childhood photos as pornography with their current definition... it all depends on what their evaluation panels decide on.

I understood with the sex crimes, but that you said the Boys Love genre is the only one that has a noticeable amount of it :what:
But off of that, people seem to get BL and Yaoi confused
In BL there is barely graphic, if any, material at all
Yaoi is more of the PWP/hentai things
Though many people just use "Yaoi" beyond it's real definiton; to describe the whole genre of male x male
