How come?
Also, I've been really curious about weed. Kinda just wanna know what the fuss is about, you know? No peer pressure, just plain curiosity. But I think I would hate myself afterwards, if I ever did it.
Forgot to ask in my other post.. Why would you hate yourself afterward? Have you drank alcohol or considered doing so? If you haven't, do you think you'd hate yourself afterward for drinking?
As for your gateway drug question.. I smoke weed occasionally, and I absolutely CANNOT STAND cigarettes. I also know quite a few people who are the same way.

What do you guys think about pot being a gateway drug?
More specifically, a gateway to cigarettes. Almost all the people I know who smoke weed occasionally, also smoke cigarettes occasionally.
Is there a correlation?
Anything can be a gateway drug. I actually started smoking before I started smoking weed, so it isn't really the case to me. People are going to be curious, but I don't know if I've ever met anyone who's started out with weed and then gone to cigarettes. It is entirely possible, though.

I remember my ex-girlfriend used to smoke cigs very frequently. Weed for her is like recreational use. Without it, she'd smoke cigs instead. Weed here in my city of Vallejo, is a bit easy to obtain and purchase.

Weed is too easy to get
the rich kids here can buy as much pot as they want since money is never a problem
literally the majority of the city is rich
anyways, they smoke because they're bored/don't want to do anything else
Too many drug dealers around where the cat lives.

I used to be really against drinking alcohol. lmao
I thought people who got wasted were idiots. I'm part of that category now. I discovered that I liked to drink and figured it wasn't so bad. I guess I started thinking for myself instead of following all those bad facts about alcohol.
Sure, it's bad if you drink everyday. But every once in awhile, it's not horrible. And it's fun when you're with friends. I would also never drink and drive. I'm a smart guy.
As for weed, I'm really against smoking. I don't even do hookah. It's mostly just fear.

I think you'd enjoy the high, Joel. Like I said before, it takes longer for smoking weed to effect your respiratory system than it takes smoking cigarettes. A few times here and there won't kill you, and won't have the lasting effects on you like alcohol does.

Smoking pot isn't anything great. Sure, the feeling of just relaxing and being one with your surroundings is nice, but that's it. You don't want to do anything but sit around and eat. As Hannah pointed out, people become overly paranoid when they smoke pot, mostly because it's illegal, so they'll do things very carefully while being high, so that they don't get found out. Of course, the whole illegal thing is why many people smoke pot. It's just like underaged drinking. Many
people my age did it because it was against the rules, and they had to be the tough guy who doesn't listen to the rules. But once they turned 21, they don't drink as often as they did when they were a teen, mostly because drinking lost all excitement to it.
But I agree with Devoth. Most people that are high are also highly aware, so they notice things a lot better than someone who's drunk, who's senses are extremely dulled, and have practically no motor skills. Of course, people that are high also, because of some paranoia while being high, won't go out driving to begin with out of fear of getting caught, where as the drunk person doesn't realize they're drunk, and then go out and drive home from the bar. Really, the only thing that's dangerous about a driver that's high is that they're going slow and could cause road rage from the people behind them, which could cause one of them to do something unfortunate.
As for legalizing, I'd agree to it. Tobacco is heavily taxed, partially because government thinks that if it's too expensive, then no one will buy it, but mostly because there's a lot of room to abuse taxes with it, and thus gives the government a lot of money in the process. While the government can't tax marijuana as heavily as tobacco, due to the fact that marijuana is hardly addictive where as nicotine is extremely addictive, they can still impose some taxes on it and make some money. People that smoke the marijuana get what they want for cheap, so now they can relax nicely and not have to worry about going anywhere from home, and the only people that are hurt in the process are drug dealers, since their cash crop is now legal, no one will go through them for it, leaving only the hard stuff like cocaine and heroine left, which is more likely to be caught dealing with.

And there's other ways of doing it, right?
Instead of smoking it, that is.

Seconded.
@Phunkie
If you're not afraid of getting trashed, then you shouldn't be afraid of smoking pot. I say that in the sense that alcohol is going to cause you more problems. Does your fear stem purely from health concerns? If so, I assume you'd be even MORE afraid of consuming pot versus smoking it.

I'd compare it to saying video games are a gateway to violent behavior. The root cause is not the video game, it's more the person. The people you're talking about were already open to drug use when they started smoking weed.
Drugs should be decriminalized, it's worked very well for
Portugal. Drug users shouldn't be joining gangs and killing other people because of all the demand being placed on drugs. Better than average people who use soft drugs without harming anyone are locked up in already overcrowded jails. I'd rather have functioning people in our society
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7755674.stm.
As far as my opinion on usage, I'm fine with soft drugs as long as no one else is affected in the process. Hard drugs should never even be touched, that stuff will f--- you up.

Hash brownies sound cooler :(
Pot isn't that bad tbh. Like the facts already stated, it has longterm effects lesser than the effects of alcohol and smoking, and for most people I know it's not something like alcoholism or a smoking habit, but rather something you do once in a while. Honestly, I smoked pot a few times in the past and it isn't as bad as people make it out to be(the whole "addictive" bs).
