No.
Because it may sound "better" than say alcohol/smoking because it takes longer to affect, I would much rather have none than any at all.
I care not if someone uses "worse things are legal" in the debate; that does not change anything.

Weed was made illegal cause the government couldn't tax you for selling it meaning no kaching in there pockets meaning there all mad about it. Also a whole bunch of Mexicans were smoking weed so the government just legalized it and therefore it's like the Arizona state law. " IF YOU WANNA SMOKE WEED GET OFF THE US "

i don't really care for it o__o they can legalize it, i'm not against it, not interested in it though
generally a paranoid person myself and i've been told weed can intensify this so i don't think it would be worth it :(
sometimes i'll get annoyed with the people that have extreme opinions on the subject though, whether it's for it or against it

That's not why. If you're curious,
this.
Nothing stops the government from taxing marijuana.

I like how a bunch of people pass off their opinion that weed is harmless as if it were fact, and everyone completely ignores the statement posted with reputable sources backing it that say otherwise. Even if we go with the effects that only the pro-weed people state: lethargy and increased appetite, the US already has an obesity problem that is being fought. Lets increase the use of a substance that has people be less active and eat more?
I think alcohol and tabacco should be illegal also. There is certainly something to be said for the freedom to do what you want to do if it harms no one, but it has been proven time and time again that tobacco and alcohol do harm you both directly from the abuse of them, and in the case of alcohol the side effect damage that comes from the lowered judgement and motor skills. The damage these two drugs do affects more than just the users. Tobacco second hand smoke is more dangerous than first hand, and the health problems created from use have the effect of raising the cost of health coverage for us all. Alcohol... I don't think I even need to explain the costs and damages that does.
People also like to say that prohibition didn't work, and wouldn't work today. I say those people should do a little more research on that subject, but in a nutshell: the New York Police dept. was highly corrupt back then, and had a large percentage of the police force being family of the mob. Enforcing prohibition was of course pretty much impossible under those conditions. I'd like to think our police force today is a bit more effective.
I don't think it is really a question on wither or not we should be legalizing weed, but why aren't we making alcohol and tobacco illegal, along with better education to help keep kids from being so drawn to these things or thinking it is cool to do them, and a general move in society to not be tolerant of these things.
As for the reasons to do the drugs: "to have a good time/be social" are you freaking serious? you need to consume a drug that puts you into an altered state of mind in order to socialize? There is something seriously wrong with that if you think about it. "people have been doing it for centuries" that doesn't make it at all right, that just means that it is hard to get people to change their habits/culture and divest themselves of something that is bad. We have so many alternative forms of entertainment that don't involve poisoning your body.
I personally will never try weed or tobacco. I've tried alcohol, and wish I hadn't. It was a waste of time and money. I also have morals, as mentioned by others in this thread. The relevant one to this discussion is: if you need to use chemicals to change who you are, or to have fun, then you're doing it wrong. It is far too easy to altar your mind without chemicals, and those who rely on them are weak. Those who make the abuse of chemicals the majority of their image and personality (read: stoner image, etc) are pathetic, and not people I want to associate with.

As much as I am for the end of tobacco use, I prefer to keep all the facts straight.
Second hand smoke isn't more dangerous than first hand smoke.
Even if smoking somehow ADDED toxic substances to the smoke (which would make human breath slightly toxic just on its own) the exhaled smoke is spread and diluted by magnitudes of tens. And of all the exhaled smoke (unless you were actually trying to get as much of it as you could), you can only get a few breaths. Meaning you'll only get something around 2% of a single drag.
I really don't think the human lung makes smoke somehow 500% more toxic, which is what it would need to increase it by just for the tiny amount of smoke inhaled as second hand to come even with regular smoke.

While harmful, yes, I don't think alcohol or cigarettes should be illegal. Getting arrested for drinking a bit? No, thanks. It's too problematic.
Some people enjoy to drink here and there. Alcohol in moderation isn't at all bad. Smoking (cigarettes) is another issue.
I don't think marijuana is bad. It's not a big deal, IMO. It makes you a little lazy and maybe a bit hungry, or so I've heard, but that's not a big problem. I don't think people should get arrested for smoking weed.

Alcohol can taste good and be enjoyed by everyone if it isn't abused.

Yes, because the police so far have so far successfully kept illegal drugs and toxins out of societies hands.
That may even be true, but I'd think that over some more. You'll find the police being largely ineffective, even in this day and age. There are few people who doesn't have a friend, or a friend of a friend with connections, where illegal drugs are readily available on a whim, as long as you have the cash. The cops might bust a growout now and then, but they will never make a meaningful difference in the illegal drug market.
and did you just suggest that weed plays a role in america's obesity epidemic? good lord. I like how you're all clean in the view of drugs of any sort, but please try to learn the difference between significance and irrelevence.
I'm curious to see the so-called reputable facts that you referenced that prove that weed does harm rather than, well, basically very little,
especially compared to things such as alcohol.
