If hiring additional staff makes the current staff get relaxed, what makes the current staff the right ones for the job?
What if there was a mod that...was responsible for speaking with users about the reports that they've sent in...?

If time is an issue, hire more moderators. I see tons of responsible and mature people that wouldn't abuse their powers(I'll even go as far to say that when Hannah became a mod, I was like "Whaaaaaat.") that aren't mods.
There is nothing stopping you guys from putting two people that constantly clash together on eachother's ignore list.
If people are really that curious about a report, then they'll ask. There aren't that many reports, and even less curious people. If there's a report that surfaces, and the reported comment/post/etc doesn't actually break the rules, we'll PM the person who reported and explain why we're going to leave whatever it is as it is, though.
Would more than a few people actually like this to be done? If so, I'll do it for you guys.
There's a lot of things stopping us from doing that, Arsik explained a few reasons. Another is, even if we could go through your private profiles and do that it's a complete violation of your privacy. I hardly doubt any member would feel safe saying anything on PMs if that were to happen.
I also think it's really pathetic that we'd have to do that in the first place, because the user can't be mature enough to do it themselves.
When did we have staff nominations? ._.
All I remember was Fal hiring the first batch through applications, Osay randomly bringing in three people out of nowhere, then another time when staff were brought out of nowhere along with she who shall not be named.
I've already said this, and I think it got lost in the walls of text, but I'm a little disappointed how Brad's case was handled.
It's his ban, so he can appeal it or not at his leisure, but I think he shouldn't have been punished for spamming in bean rua. Even though the wording of the rules for bean rua changed, the rules are still, with the current wording, the same. Spam, in the new definition, is being off-topic. But, in bean rua:
I looked through the thread, and none of his "spam" posts were directed at Loop, so they can't even be construed to be harassment or trolling.
"You know better" keeps getting thrown around, elsewhere and in this thread, like the older members are somehow more accountable for the rules than new members, even though the rules recently went through a change. (I'm not saying anyone feels this way, but if you really do feel like older members are more accountable for the same rules as new members are, then you really are playing favorites.)
I'm not in the position to argue for Brad's appeal, but the way he was banned was ugly.

People aren't banned due to other people.
People are banned due to their actions, so whether or not you reported him yourself is irrelevant. The same outcome would have occurred.
Would a reply like 'Thanks for your report, we're now going to review it but can't notify you of any action' be of any value? Every reported post is reviewed by multiple mods, so wouldn't it make more sense to send a PM only if the expected outcome of the report is not achieved?
I just think the mods need to be a bit more optimistic in this thread; that's a start.
