disable signatures
PG13 movies show boobs, I don't see why a site that 16+ shouldn't be able to have boobs if it's tasteful
No, I know. It's pretty, and good art, but I'm not going to disable signatures if a few people have (imo!) borderline inappropriate ones. I block them, of course, and I honestly don't mind most of the time, but sometimes it becomes a bother.
You have no idea how awkward it would be if my dad walked in and saw that. I have asian parents. I don't know what it's like with you guys but it's different ._. It's just a bit too sexualized to me.
Quote from Episkey;949678:
Not the point of my post. I said - block it if you can, but also recognize the ability to report things that could be considered rule-breaking.
I also don't want to be viewing such images as well, I'm not at the liberty to do as such. I'm not going to impose my personal taste and distaste on others - if it doesn't break the rules, then what can you do?
However, if you really want to go down your route - I would suggest making a formal complaint to the Staff and see if you can "rectify" the situation. If that so pleases you.
Lol, I've been on the staff, I know what happens to complaints. The favoritism might not be as blatant as some people believe but it's most definitely there.

While we're on it, I, myself, felt pretty iffy about Elena's signature. I have no personal problems with it, however, I knew that some people would. The thing is, though, I know that it didn't break the rules, and I wasn't going to say no simply because it was borderline.
While she has changed it, keep in mind that she absolutely didn't have to, and rather did it out of common courtesy. If a problem like this arrives in the future, unless a member decides to change it or remove it themselves, nothing will be done about it. We aren't a 13+ forum anymore, and eventually, we won't be a Mabinogi forum anymore. We're beginning to gear toward appealing to an older crowd, and things aren't going to be "safe" for everyone.

Wow. What tremendous insight!~
Truly, your past staff experience allows you to accurately know how currently the staff deals with user complaints.

I'm just so completely overwhelmed by this realization, I surely must retire and go to the comfort of my bed.

I doubt anything's changed much.

Valk and Kaz explained my point better than I could, I have nothing else to add. I just hope that if one days boobs become the norm, no one gets their pantis on a bunch if a penis shows up.
Now moving on~
I believe people need a reminder that mabinogi life isn't "EVERYTHING MABI" Pets gets posted there, when we have pet park. Media gets posted there, when we have multimedia fantasy. Either a reminder is needed, or scrapping those sections, since no one seems to use them anymore. Also, wasn't there a rule about the news section, where facebook stuff would be posted in mabi life until an official announcement came out?
I ask because just recently, I made a teaser post about the commerce partners on the mabi life section without checking the news section first, given I remembered this rule. I checked news afterwards for something unrelated and that's when I noticed there was already a thread in there about the same topic. I reported my post and it was deleted, but the teaser on the news section wasn't re-located. Can you guys clarify this stuff regarding facebook teasers?

I don't see any problem, but then again I've only been around for a month or so.

Keep in mind that mabination has been 16+ for quite some time now, although I haven't really pushed it very much. When we switch to the new forum system however the 16+ aspect will be made much more clear.
This does mean that kind of content is allowed as long as the "inappropriate" naked bits are not on display. Just because someone either does not like it or find themselves in a location/situation where they're uncomfortable having that on their computer screen does not mean it's against the rules. Even I'm affected by that, so I hardly get on mabination at work. I'm not going to change the rules just so I can browse the forum from work.
What is planned however (and already functional) is a "SFW" option on the new forum system that allows you to quickly turn off the forum banner, signatures and avatars so that the forum ends up looking like a generic website. If I can figure out how it will also disable embedded images in posts (but don't count on it because that stuff is weird).
I'm also all in favor of feedback on how the mods do their jobs, but I don't want to see people complaining about them not giving out infractions or otherwise dealing with situations when we often get no more than one or two reports per day, and on occasion no more than a few per week. To make it worse a lot of reports are only for very minor things like necro posts or wrong section threads (though please do continue reporting those). It's the equivalent of bitching at the police for not doing anything yet no one called 911. We don't care if 20 people report the same thing, so if you see something, report it.

I cannot push this enough. Seriously. We've said it time and time again, we
miss things. I won't lie, we make mistakes. We aren't perfect, and we're human just like the rest of you. We can't all be online 24/7 and we can't all watch every single thread like hawks.
Honestly, either:
- There are a ton of things we're missing, and nobody is reporting them, or
- The things you all are reporting are most of the things that are happening, and this is all being blown out of proportion.
You have to let us know. Whether it's a PM, a VM, a post, a signature, an avatar, staff actions based on bias (be it good or bad), even if you're in doubt, or you think we already know about it, please let us know.

I love the hypocracy in this thread. We have a good number of users complaining or mentioning of favoritism in the staff, which is true is some aspects. But you, the users, are also very much playing favorites. I'll use myself as an example.
Last month, as many of you remember, I made a post in reply to Loopulse that was pretty much nothing but me trying to hurt his feelings and make him leave this site. I knew that what I was about to post was wrong, and I knew I would get in trouble for it, but I posted it anyways, and reported my own post, pretty much telling the staff that I just needed to say it to vent or whatever. And when I asked how many other people reported that post, I was told I was the only one to report the post. And yet, even though it was very rule breaking and should have been deleted the second a mod saw it, and given me an infraction for it, I had gotten 8 reps for that one post, just because I, a generally well loved member of this site, bashed a member that very few people here like.
I guarantee you that if something in that equation changed, for example, I was a new member of the site who just joined to attack Loopulse, or if I as I am now attacked a different member, for example Hanna, for where she was making a new thread in Bean Rua for practically everything that was happening with her life as it was going on, similar to what people have turned Twitter into, the post would have probably seen more than just my report, and I highly doubt I would have gotten any rep from the community. So for people to come here and say that the staff is playing favorites badly, and yet not take into consideration that they themselves play favorites for pretty much the same exact issues, as seen in this thread where people asked why Brad was banned "for no reason", but forgetting that the only other person that has been banned more than he has is Jordy, a person who had a personal grudge with Fal and just took it to other members he didn't like when he was done dealing with Fal.
So instead of just pushing all the blame for the bad behavior of the community on the staff, you guys should start doing an evaluation of how you guys are as a member of this community before you judge others.

You bring up a good point, Arsik. I didn't even think about the fact that the only person who'd reported that was you.
There have been times when literally the last was well over a day or two ago,and yet I find people complaining that we didn't do something about x or y thing. If you can come tell us about how we miss something...why didn't you report it yourself? You can't go on thinking that someone else will, because often enough, it won't be reported. "Oh, some one else will do it." Nope, they won't. They'll probably be thinking the exact same thing you are.
People constantly tell us how we're missing things, and yet, when I ask to be linked to the situation, or have it report it, I'll get a link maybe once. If it was reported, it's definitely getting looked at. No report goes without getting looked at for over 24 hours. If nothing's been done about it, there was no action required, or it's being very heavily discussed, or it wasn't action that was visible. Again, aside from someone getting banned, most infractions don't do anything people would actually notice.

Being 16+ doesn't necessarily mean that you have to allow nudity or inappropriate content. I think that you should really rethink it if you want to allow nudity so long as genitals aren't showing (because going off this thread, it doesn't really look like many people are in agreement with that decision.)

You'd be surprised. Though in all honesty, I don't see why disallowing it completely when we all know that 16+ is very likely to have some potentially "sexual" (though not overly so) content either way is a better option as opposed to someone simply blocking or disabling sigs/avis if they're browsing Mabination in a place where such content is deemed inappropriate.
That's like saying "well I don't like pictures of flowers and some places I use the computer at don't like or allow it either, so nobody should be allowed to show pictures of flowers". It forces it to become a group issue when in reality it's just a single issue.

If enough single people in the group have the issue, it becomes a group issue. This thread alone isn't a good enough measure, but it suggests that we have a lot of such-minded singles.

We're not talking about one person's opinions, or one subject matter (such as "flowers.") This is actually a much broader issue, one that affects pretty much everyone. Some people aren't okay with nudity, regardless of whether they're at home or not. Others might have to share a computer (I'm sure there's 16 year olds who still have to use their computer in a family/living/shared room.) Saying "oh just block sigs/individual elements" isn't the right way to go about it when it's a group issue, as Juno said. On top of that, nation is primarily a game forum, right? I don't understand why we HAVE to allow nudity simply because the forums themselves are 16+.

Using flowers as a comparison for this doesn't really work because there's no real social stigma against them. No one's going to think something "else" if a person is caught looking at flowers. The real issue comes with the stigma against nudity, whether it's meant to be pornographic or not.
