what exactly is the mana shield nerf? Is the denominator decreased on the skill/reforges or do the mechanics change altogether
It ignores def/prot. Which matters when ppl are gonna have 200+ def and god knows how much prot with all the new masteries.
Not sure if they also lowered the coefficient.
In other words, MS will still be better at reducing critical dmg and at reducing 500~1k+ dmg but for all the enemies who will get their dmg reduced to 1 from so much def, MS will be far less efficient than HP.

They definitely lowered the coefficient for MS, but I'm not sure if they lowered the effect from MS reforge.
Wouldn't MS become even more important, seeing as monsters get higher damage along with defense penetration now?

The coefficient definitely got lowered. But I'm not sure about the bonus from reforge, I'm fairly certain that stayed the same, I'll double check on that.
Wouldn't MS actually get more important, seeing as monsters have higher damage due to actually having stats, as well as defense penetration?
I mean, for squishy players like me, MS is already important. 75% percent of the time, I use MS, not just for butterfly, but also to survive. I don't have any MS reforge, but it works out well. I feel like this is gonna be the case for more people when this content comes out in NA.

From the screenshots you posted, wasn't it just their stats that got boosted? giving them an extra 150 str/dex is just 60 more dmg/10 def piercing per hit, while the amount of def obtained is much higher. Besides the prot we'll have at those amounts below 50% will count for more than it does now.
For example, currently with my specialized dmg setup:
44 def, 9 prot, -10 crit reduction.
In g18s2 with my specialized dmg setup:
223 def, 33 prot, -10 crit reduction.
33 prot in g18s2 is around 40% dmg reduction, or similar to 40 prot now.
Let's try... possessed HM lancer from GOP?
It has 470 melee dmg now. If I get hit by it now, I receive 387 dmg. If I use MS I would receive 155 MP dmg.
In g18 s2 let's say it gets +200 stats. That's +80 melee dmg and +20 def pierce... so 570. If I get hit by it then, I receive 208 dmg. If I used MS I would receive 228 MP dmg (assuming they didn't lower the coefficient, which they may have like you said).
In second example I am receiving more damage with MS... although if you are correct about a lower coefficient, I would receive even more dmg with MS. Now, that's just an example of a mob that hits really high. How about stuff like SCC HM gold fighters that probably hits 150s after the patch? 1 dmg with HP vs 60 MP or more with MS. Stuff that hits below 200~300 is far more common than stuff that hits past 500~600 too.
Obviously, though... if you're not giant or if you have no STR/masteries then the only thing that will change between now and g18s2 is that your MS might be 15% less effective if the coefficient is same, and maybe more if it was lowered. MS will still be your preferential tanking method, however.

So if Viscount only works on greaves and only gives 1-2 attack speed where is the other 8-9 supposed to come from with heavy armor?

Automatic Enchant that gives +8 Speed Attack

Oh. What are the chances of actually getting that? I mean, is it fairly common or is it one of those enchants I'll have to grind mobs for months to get?

It's most likely takes a hour or two to get.

Thank you, I was going to ask about this but you covered it for me. Basically Mana shield master race for things like MA and whatnot.

Is there anything that does the same thing as Viscount? Because I've gone through hundreds of potions ballooning all day and no sign of ever getting the ES. Or anything else for that matter, it gave me the same exact prizes every time.

That should answer your question. Don't worry about prefixes, they're extremely rare from auction and not that much better then the alternatives, if at all.

Too fast for you Zek. Gotta go fast.

So basically the answer is no. Everything that adds attack speed is next to impossible to get. Guess I'll just blow 3m to get a viscount burn off housing and hope it doesn't fail.

Yakumo Yukari wrote on 2013-05-15 08:24
Is viscount really 3m on Rui? o_O
That sounds massivly, massivly overpriced.
