Today I logged in for the first time in almost a year...
I remember when I left, West Dunbarton was filled with shops. Now there are barely 5 or 6.
What happened?

1) What server are you on?
2) Did you bother changing channels?

It definitely feels FAR more lifeless than it did around a month ago.
I've also seen a lot of "quitting sales" lately.

A lot of people jumped ship out of boredom, distaste for recent updates, or any number of reasons. At this point we need to acknowledge the game is 10 years old and could have been taken care of better. You can still enjoy the game with less people; it's not empty, there's just a lot more holes in it. That is, provided you do still enjoy it. That part you have to decide for yourself.

Hm... Can't remember well, but isn't Ch7 the current market channel for Ruairi?
On a side note, being able to keep game alive for 10+ years sounds like an achievement of its own.

The Maplestory ds game never even saw a stateside release, and Maplestory's population has been on the decline lately as well.

That's Tarlach ,Ruairi's market channel is1 lol It has decreased on the west side, but I think that's due to the event. Still plenty of shops in town for Belvast and Dunby.
But yea, after you hit a certain point, this game slows down to a boring stand-still. With previous unneeded changes, skills and other things, I could see more people quitting easy. What made the game enjoyable was changed, and not for the better.

Not really. I always see newbies hunting for foxes/wolves in Tir and I've yet to have any problems searching party for MA or dailies. I'm actually glad Nexon decided to put more effort on Saga 2 in terms of "mini-game" (Pirate one was my favorite so far)

Not dead yet, but nowhere near as alive as before. Especially for older players, people have been less active, and thanks to the event and less people in general, I see less people running dailies and MA.

Not dead, but nexon isn't paying much attention to anyone whose played longer than a year.
They keep trying to bring in new players but are losing all the old ones. Mabinogi is the type of game where in theory this could have been avoided, but with years of ruining life skills and producing boring content they ruined their chance.
I wouldn't be surprised about a server merge in the next year or so as population keeps dropping, and more players become super-casual instead of regular.
