The game being dead is relative. If a person can't find anyone to do the type of content they enjoy with, if their friend list that used to be all green is now all grey, then it's fair for them to say it's dead.
As a result of individuals thinking that and then quitting or playing a lot less, it sets off a chain reaction. Other people's friend lists have even less people, and there's less people to party with, which results in even more people thinking the game is dead... And the chain continues.
When this goes on for long enough you get more people who agree with the statement of the game being dead when threads like this are made.

Lol the vast majority of playerbase decline is due to school/work or other declines im free time not "the game is dying" Really guys. Yea there needs to be more and better content but that doesn't affect new players or even most newish players.

Lol.
I honestly don't think this game is dead. There's new players that I see everyday. I tend to help them out now with random quests and junk whether they asked for it or not haha. There are still people that play up a storm in Dunbarton and Belvast. Sure I see more quitting sales (which I think is kinda dumb; what if something really AWESOME comes out? You just lost your loot.) but that doesn't mean the game is dead.
I recently just got back on the game from a good break and I see more people playing puppeteers and mages. And honestly the thought I get isn't "The game is dead?! Run for the hills!", it's "I really hope there's no new 'meta' in this game. This game isn't supposed to have metas."
I see more defeatists, like one kid decided to quit after a friend of mine couldn't use fighter skills. And we were in Baol Dungeon. I know it's a bit hard but hey, gotta push on eh? At least to the end, haha.
But I'm getting off topic, I highly think this game is faaaar from dead. Just some things that we have to get used to and some stuff that we'll have to wait for. Until then, I'm exploring the vast continent of Iria. There's still some places I haven't really explored and I want to take it all in at a walking pace.

Pretty much this.
In my case, it is true that I play nearly three times as less as I used to, but most of the reasons of this are due to schoolwork and my family's business. My interest in Mabinogi has decreased, but that is not the primary reason.
EDIT:
I guess the people who quit are those who capped out their character and have nothing left to do. However, they come back eventually. lol.
[SIZE="1"]Maybe if my computer did support a game like Archeage and some [S]whore[/S] guy wasn't running around with my username, I'd play it instead. Meh.

Who actively changes those icon things when they stop playing? Does not make it funnier really.

Compared to when I used to play, it is dead.
The fact that this Saga encourages solo play does not help.

Unless you're someone who works for this site, who checks anything mabi related since the game is dead to them? I'm sure if mabi was really dead to most people here, they would uninstall it and move on with their lives instead of commenting on how dead it's become. You could say the game is boring because of obvious mabi problems, but it's far from dead. That's pretty much why I find this funny
Edit: Also, not everyone has time for Mabi. I find myself logging on to afk for my spirit weapon and talk with some friends.Other than this, sheer boredom.
*And quitting sells make no sense, if you're really quitting ,who sells items for in-game money? just sell the entire account

Saga is mess, to describe it shortly. Most people also moved to Alexina. Some people work or have school too,so no time for logging in.

Definitely not dead. A lot of older players have probably left but new ones still come in. It probably won't ever get to the popularity it was a few years ago though, as the game engine is really starting to show its age.
It has its charm, but it is still a niche game. As long as KR stays mega popular I have no reason to believe NA will die. We get a steady stream of updates which helps keep people logging in.
EU was a different story, it was intentionally left to rot by Nexon.

As long as there is still a profit within a game it won't completely die. It would be nice if Nexon would allow for people to transfer servers, that way they could remove the least populated server and fill up the other servers with more active players.
There are plenty of ways they could remedy and make the game more popular however Nexon doesn't exactly have much leeway with making new content for NA with the exception of the beauty shop which was released here before anywhere else. Maybe having more and active GMs to hold events and socialize, give us intuitive content IE that holy something or other skill would be a nice addition for any clerics out there, or revamp some of the systems. Dungeons, ego weapons, farming system in tail, visual upgrades, general maintenance (which should be first, fix the problems then add more content).

I agree with more interactive GMs.
Remember when GMs would randomly roam around in Tir Chonail or Dunbarton and summon random field bosses? Like, you'd see a random desert dragon just outside of Dunbarton.

What's the point of playing a game if you don't have any fun? Most of us are just stuck in this addictive-but-boring endless quest for more damage, which is really the only thing that keeps people playing anymore.
There is no point in extra damage anymore. We just use it on the same shit. Instead of two-hit killing something now, you could probably OHKO it.
Look at the current Mabi population, practically 90% of the people who play actively are long-time veterans who have done everything in the game already. There are barely any newbies in this game.
I too, questioned myself earlier this year. Why am I still playing this? What's the point in me playing if I don't enjoy it? Hence why I have moved on; I'm not coming back until they fix this.
There is no content for people to do, and people are just now beginning to realize.
If Nexon releases new content at this pace, then the game will die out quite soon.

How can you say that Mabinogi is dying when they're testing out this lovely update:
