I've pretty much stopped playing for the time being. Got all my weapions, gear, enchants, reforges, pets, outfits, and skills that I want. There just isn't any new end-game content for me so it's very stale. I've done 10,000 elites, NPC, conflict, and Peaca abyss runs, I can't run them anymore.
And it doesn't seem like there is a lot of great content planned for the future either to fix these glaring end-game content problems, so I don't have much incentive to keep playing unfortunately. I always keep Mabi installed though in-case I relapse or if a neat update comes out or something.
Honestly I think the biggest thing for me though has been trying out new MMOs like FFXIV and the new WoW expansion, it's really refreshing to run a new game with incredible graphics at a high framerate, while in Mabi the client just chugs and has such a hard time even in solo missions. A lack of client optimization has really caught up with Mabi if you ask me.
I think the game is far from dead; it has a long future ahead of it. This is definitely a lull in the player base and update cycle though, so things will seem a bit empty right now.

I will admit that right now I'm not really active. Only reason why I log on now is for new shiny gachapons, or shiny items from events. I'm looking at you homestead kitty! Of course the weekly saga episodes also gets me to log on, do them, record them, upload them, and wait until next week. Other than that, not really active and been playing Minecraft instead which is surprisingly proving to be more entertaining just building automations and expanding my base than Mabinogi is atm....

I don't think it's any more dead than it usually is this time of year. But, as players stick around longer, it's natural to feel as if the game is dying due to most of their friends leaving. Even if there's still plenty of newbies, they seem not to count.

Quick everyone, bail!
No, but really (maybe), before leaving I've noticed the game declining in population over the years. Usually Mabinogi picks up around major updates and the summer break. The last couple "major updates" that I logged in for seemed to build little population though. When I logged in a few weeks ago or whenever it was to receive some free item for logging in, my friends list and guild list were almost entirely empty. It's hard to say what will happen, though it's likely nexon will keep going as long as somebody is paying enough money to them to keep the lights on.

I think at this point, a server merge would be a good idea. Something like Alexina + Tarlach and Mari + Ruairi (pedo alert).

I actually agree with this idea. My guild, one of the oldest Alexina guild, and probably the oldest of the guilds that are alive today, is mostly made up of my friends. This summer, we had as many members as 15 logged on at the same time, which is alright. Nowadays, it's usually three to four, since many of them have other things to do, like me. And frankly, the friends in my guild are not casual players. They're pretty serious about this, and I would be considered the casual player of my group, even though the majority of the game population would say the opposite. Like others said, they got work to do, or they just don't have much to rank anymore, which is half the cases of my friends since they're nearly capped. And I'd assume this is the same for other guilds and servers.

Somehow I always sigh inwardly at these threads. I can't help it. It's as if every game's forum has to have topics like this even when a game is doing well.
It's not dead, obviously. It's dead when they close it down like Mabinogi EU. Untill that point, nope. Mabinogi is clearly still thriving. How can you call an MMORPG that still gets content updates added and weekly maintenance dead? Or even dying? I've played my fair share of MMORPG's who were obviously dying. No new updates for months, no maintenances for months..then you know it is dying. This is not even remotely happening for Mabi.
Playerbase wise, perhaps it is less than it used to be, but I still see plenty of new people that play everyday, and I also have friends that I introduced who now love the game and who get their friends to play, who love it who then get their friends to play. It may be "dead" to some older players who gotten bored. But honestly let's be realistic here..This is the fate of any player in an MMORPG whose played it for years. After a few years, the game becomes a bore and you move on. It's the circle of...life for MMORPG players? LOL
At any rate, I have played a plenty MMORPG's in which I reached endgame. Played for a few months more, then quit due to boredom. And those all had topics like this, and those games..they are still going. Still get updates. Still got plenty of people. If you look at how well we also did during the voting for MMORPG's at MMObomb, then I'd say Mabinogi still has quite a following, which is more than enough to keep it alive. If not that then for sure the people that throw a lot of money at their screens at each gacha will keep it alive.
Lack of actual end game content wise..I can see why players who've basically been there and done that, get bored. But the game isn't dead. It's more of a case of them being dead in the game. I mean, they stop coming online but the game is still online. The game is still being played. Just not anymore by them.
Well, I am pretty sure not everyone is going to agree with this, and that is fine. Do keep in mind though, that this is merely my own personal opinion I am sharing.

I thought I was the only one who thought this. The game is doing just fine, while im sure hardcore gamers hate how easy the game has become, those who just recently started enjoy how fast paced the game is and even when the game slows down at lvl 1000 theres just too much to do. I enjoy talking to the guild mates and doing random stuff to kill time. I loved the story of the mainstreams playing as some badass character who is saving the world etc like it was some console game. Theres just so much content currently and tbh I havnt been so addicted to a game in so long like mabi. Normally id stop in a month but this game has the ability to last years with its endless level system. Theres always something to do and by the time I really reach end game there will be even more content for me to do etc. Ive been playing for a few months and am fairly happy. As long as you have an active guild with some ppl you enjoy talking to I feel like the repetive shadow missions are fine with me. Course im practically waiting for rebirths but I kill time talking to the guild and doing events with them. If you're a solo player of course you'll get a bit bored which I was till I started to really talk to ppl and now I enjoy the game still. If you're guild isnt active then join an new one or start recruiting for the purpose of meeting new players.

Everyone bail is kinda over reacting tbh
Mabi is still somewhat a good game, it's just made a lot of bad choices with recent skills, weapons and revamps. Neither does it plan a good source end-game content well. But from the looks of how mabi is dead to some people, i'd say most capped leveled characters will quit totally before anything meaningful for mabi comes out.

The game is only updated so frequently due to the feed of foreign server's success. The playerbase is definitely significantly smaller visually and based on <FULL> channels and server bars alike. Mabinogi's success in MMOBOMBS popularity contest can be explained by lack of care/information of opponents, cross-publisher support, cheating, and heavy incentives provided by Nexon; we all know that Mabinogi would have lost in round one if the LOTRO users were actually informed.
What really sets it off is the activity though. When you have the following:
-Shadow Mission (One of the most popular forms of content)
-Daily + Well liked mission
-Alexina (Most popular server)
-Channel 1 (Most popular channel)
-Hard (Most popular difficulty)
-Active period
...and it still takes 20 minutes or longer to get a team, then I find it hard to believe the game is thriving. Perhaps it is financially successful, or a financial failure now, but I don't think that's the point here. If players think it's dead, I can understand exactly why. Frequent solo runs and idling in Dunbarton or Belvast do very little to make the game seem more alive.

Mabinogi's doing fine. I came back and running SM with completely new people so it is safe to assume, the game is still getting newbies.
People in your friend's list, especially if you're an older player like me, who have been playing this game for years will naturally go away. Just because the friend list feels desolate, doesn't mean the game is dead.
