Greetings, this is the Mabinogi Development Team.
Today, the Mabinogi Renovation Project's 2nd part, the Magic Talent's Revamp's 2nd update has been implemented into the Test Server.
The Magic Talent is a wonderful skill set where you can give damage towards multiple enemies with many outstanding effects. However similar to the Close Combat talent, after new talents were added into the system, the combat system of the game has become too reliant on certain talents where there were several issues and disappointing factors that were left neglected for a long time.
Mabinogi's Magic Skills represent the word "Magic", which is mystical and powerful, coming across rhetorical aspects, and we do think that our beloved Milletian players should have very satisfied for those who just love using Magic. That is why we took the direction of revamping the Magic Talent and have put in changes into the Test Servers for some testing.
1. Increase in Efficiency
The Magic Talent's damage range can be very comparable to other reliant talents. However compared to other talents, despite having many several skills available, only a few skills are relied upon while the rest have fallen behind compared to them, where we have seen that there are many less efficient skills around in the Magic Talent.
Because of this situation, we had concerns whether the Magic skills have the right damage output compared to their major roles, and if it doesn't fall behind or is less efficient when you are playing with your friends and party mates in a long-term gameplay.
Even if we changed the amount of damage, it would give a better efficiency but in terms of time constraints as a whole, we have looked at why some skills were not efficient in certain battlefields, and why it is difficult to use in certain areas, where we had finalized our decision to give changes towards the skills to be more effective in their roles.
That is why we have added new effects to the skills that aren't used often despite having their certain usages, and have raised the efficiency realistically towards skills to match the current combat system.
It was seen that the huge amount of damage wouldn't increase the efficiency of the skills, and the efficient usages in various situations was the main issue and concerns, where we hope the players are satisfied with the outputs we had made with the concerns.
2. Increase in reliability
When the Magic Talent was first available in Mabinogi, it had great damage and efficiency and from balancing and settings, the Magic skills were supposed to have usability and obtain methods matching their performance.
Due to several factors had changed and more new efficient skill sets having been added, the difficulty kind of seemed to be too difficult compared to the actual usage and efficiency of the skills.
First above, the efficiency of the Magic talent, and by the direction the Mabinogi Development Team would like to go through from the Mabinogi Renovation Project, a certain difficulty is required, but that should not become something inconvenient towards the players.
That is why we had eased the difficulty for the skill pages required to learn the Intermediate Magic skills, and have made the MP potions more available towards the players for MP management.
Also for skills that had absurd skill training requirement despite their actual usage and performance, we had eased down on their training methods and have made the Magic Skills more convenient to use.
3. New Skills, Changes, Weapons and Enchants
As explained above, the new skills, weapons and enchants have been implemented to help with the efficiency and convenience, where we hope they will help in the currently disappointing and lacking aspects of the Magic Talent.
We have added two new skills to help with the combat in the battlefield when Magic Skills' efficiency falls behind, and when the timing of the skills are too slow compared to other talents.
Lightning Rod
Thunder-type Magic Skill which you can use very quickly compared to the other Advanced Magic Skills, which will attack several enemies at once by giving out electrical attacks.
Mana Recovery
This is a skill which will heal up your MP at a fast pace when you cannot gain MP. This will help you recover quickly and join back in the battle.
To give some different kinds of changes and increase efficiency, we have added the following new weapons in hopes of increasing the reliability of the Magic weapons:
- Celtic Tribolt Wand
- Celtic Druid Staff
- Celtic Guardian Staff
There are new enchants which are available to purchase from Duncan in the Test Server, and when they are added into the Main Server, the new weapons' production materials and Enchants will be available to obtain from Uladh Dungeons and Shadow Mission reward chests.
We hope that the Magic Talent will gain back its main role and uniqueness from this update.
The Mabinogi Renovation Project was started thanks to everyone's input and we hope to show more positive outputs in the future from our efforts.
We thank you for your interest and hope for more love from everyone.
Thank you.

Well... there's the proof of the new lightning magic skill being advanced, to all those naysayers.

That was a lot of words to say practically nothing.
tl;dr
Magic was bad (sure Nexon)
1. We gave skills new effects and not damage so they would be efficient
2. Some skills are easier to get and train
3. New magic weapons, enchants, and skills: Lightning Rod & Mana Recovery

Magic skills are already the easiest to rank out of all other talents. I can't even think of anything easier to rank than magic. How much easier can it get?

-Enchant... maybe?
-Magic Shields are somewhat tedious unless you have a Pet Imp.
-Hail Storm, Snap Cast, and Spellwalk are kinda boring... or maybe I'm just not dedicated enough. But Snap Cast should be easier since they lowered the CD.
-Meteor Strike is only annoying because of its longass cooldown.

Melee
Melee is easier to rank imo.
Why?
- Easier to find -CP gear for Melee, I wanna see you rank Hailstorm and Meteor Strike with an Abysmal Pot.
- Melee takes less AP
and as Darkboy said, Snap Cast, Spell Walk and a few others are quite tedious to rank

How does afking in Shyllien Train Spellwalk?
seriously i want to know how AFKing in Shyllien trains a Skill which Requires you to use Bolt Magic, INT Magic and Healing while your Stamina is constantly drained.

spellwalk is easy.
For healing just stand at a mana tunnel with a pet. Have one hotkey be spellwalk and the other healing. Then you load heal, activate spellwalk, cast it, unload spellwalk and repeat until your fingers bleed.
Bolts just do wherever has lots of mobs, shyllien is good.
Same for advanced magics.
Only enable spellwalk as you're about to cast the bolt/magic and keep it on only for as long as needed to get the reqs.
And for ice spear you do this:

the shields though are a real pain in the ass, too much traveling and different methods to rank each one.
Snap cast is really annoying, haven't even gone past r9 yet.

Still wanna know what koishi means, cause this isn't afking at all XD
Snap cast however is easier to afk since you only need to return everytime Snap cast is off CD and use it shortly...

definitely can't do spellwalk afk but they probably meant you can just be lazy in shyllien to rank it, which is true for everything except heal, where you go be lazy at a mana tunnel instead. Helps to have some anime on the side.

Fire Shield is probably the easiest of the shields to rank cause of that fireball spamming Macha in episode 10 hehe.
Of course you still would need to go rafting and attack those stupid hobgoblins that fire shield.

Or pet imp. Or get a friend with one.

I have a pet imp but never knew you could attack your own pet... how does that work?
