... No, seriously.
I can't really think of an exact reason why Shadow Missions are so hateful in my perspective,
but here's some of the reasons, I guess;
- Repetition, despite the good EXP
- Atmosphere is always dark, dull, etc
- Monsters' high DEF and PROT is not enjoyable for an archer
- In my opinion, sucky music (I have yet to find a new soundtrack for Shadow Missions)
- We do it ever so often.
And I've barely looked into G11,
and already hate the Tara Rath Castle SMs. They're even more annoying
than the ones in Taillteann, IMO... including the monsters -cough Blinkers cough-
For some reason, I feel as if Mabinogi is never going to let us
stop fighting Fighters, Lancers, Archers, Alchemists, and Wizards.
And I think one big thing that took the depth out of the game
was the fact that everything started to be based on Shadow Missions,
and everything started to be more solo rather than party-type...
Which leads me to the reason of why G1 was such a fun Generation,
and probably the most entertaining.

Shadow missions are an f-u to archers spamming AR or range. Though the protection isn't that high compared to hardmode dungeons.
Enjoy crash shot.
Edit:
Also, the music is more epic than dungeon or Iria fields (lolwut no music)
Edit 2: Personalized BGM ftw.

I found G1 the best too, considering it was the only time I really got to play with my friends and take on actual fun monsters. I wish there would be another Generation like G1, since it was by far the best in my opinion, content and fun-wise.

Run insane shadow missions or insane hardmode dungeons with guild members.

That's pretty boring, since I've done everything in the game and lived up until now. Nothing new really.

I think the reason why Iria has no music is because of
Exploration; the four beeps must be heard.
But honestly I would much rather prefer music in Iria :(

I did G1 on my human alt and wondered where that depth,
and that excitement of adventure went xD;
I mean, in G1 we got to go everywhere; we ran many different dungeons.
It had a storyline that actually kinda made sense.
(The current storyline still makes sense, but it's kind of all over the place now.
Like, they were talking about the forgotten goddess Irinid, and then suddenly skipped to Partholons.
Am I missing something here?)

Replace G1 final with G3 final, and it's the best generation imo.
The Alchemists have a place in my heart, however.

I personally liked G9 and G11 the best.

Mhm, I just hope they make more use of dungeons.
What I dislike about Mabinogi is how new content -always- replaces older content.
Like seriously, Dungeons get replaced with Shadow Missions. Look at exploration, each new update replaces the old method of gaining exploration AP. Iria is nothing more than a deadland, moreso with Taillteann and Tara.
And what I dislike is how older content gets blindsided. Coil still only has one difficulty! Switching directors gives a fresh feel of Mabinogi, but new Directors usually end up abandoning the old Director's ideas in favor of completely replacing them (Like g1. In g1~g3 cutscenes, players had the link syndome [Meaning they don't talk at all], but in g9+, your character actually has lines).

There's will be no more SMs after G12, I believed but Stage Dungeons instead, for G13.

Well as long as it party base I'm not complaining. I like having someone watch my back and vice versa more so than having to solo a dungeon/SM for exp. Though I guess they should revamp some of the old stuff, despite me starting like in August, and have a summer hiatus.

I love G1, like the G2-3.
But I can't say I enjoyed G7 - 8 & G9 - 13
Its not the story that bothers me... I just get that feeling something is missing.
I don't favor the Shadow Missions either.
Not because of its difficulty, dark atmosphere nor the fact you just repeat the same missionover and over.
Its probably that time limit.
Before Iria came out, when every one was playing in dungeons. We never had a time limit.
We stopped in our tracks to take a break from time to time
Chit chating in front of a campfire in the middle of a dungeon.
I still remember 7 years ago, when G1 first came out, we just simply got PWNed by Glas Ghaibhleann so many times that
we always found ourselves sitting in front of a campfire right in front of the Boss Room.
Analyzing what went wrong in our previous attempt, planning out new tactic to defeat it, etc.
Shadow Missions, Mainstream quests nowadays just lacks something
Most of the quests are solo's(which I hate so very much)
Bosses don't need much tactic since all you have to do is go hit'em and its dead
Overall, I can't seem to feel the energy I felt so long ago

Yeah, I hate shadow missions as well. I generally dislike dark/gloomy atmospheres.
I like G4 the best. =D No storyline really for humans, but it was so much fun because of the new continent release.

I liked dungeons better because the monsters were more squishy.

Personally, I feel like Nexon is running out of ideas.
This summer we had the Rafting event again, which I think is awesome,
but couldn't they at least have thought of a new event?
Or an event to go along with the Rafting one?
I look forward to the G13 dungeons that Zeo talked about.
I'm more excited about G13 than G12.
(Grim Reaper looks pathetically easy though?! xD)
I just really hate Shadow Missions, even though at the release of G9, they were pretty cool at first.
Now, I'm just like.. "Shadow Mission? Okay.. let me just go on a 3-week hiatus and come back"

G4-G6 is the reason I joined again.
I think it'd be amazing if they created more towns in Iria, so that it's not just a wide barren wasteland.
