SM's are meh to me. I only do one of them on a consistancy basis and that is Their Method which is comprised of 44 zombies of fun.../sarcasm.
I spam 42 Their Methods a week to get to my level 50 goal a rb and I have to say even though its awesome exp, awesome money and only takes 10mins its so BORING! So glad that it doesn't take the attention span other SM's need.
Other SM's on the other hand can be fun when your not dying every second. Defeat the Shadow Wizard with 8 people is so much fun and don't forget g9 and 10 pre-finale and finales. EPIC EXP!

Oh, aren't they going to do an Iria Renewel (complete with a generation storyline) in g14? If I remember correctly, it'll be released this December... well goal-wise.

I also dislike the way everything in shadow missions has such high prot/def. It makes combat more tedious and can't replicate the intensity of say, what albey silver was back in the day. 8 people sitting outside a room of light gargoyles, 1 archer and 7 people trying to hold the monsters back.
The fact that there are so few different types of enemies doesn't help either. In dungeons, each one is it's own experience. Different monsters, different look, different boss. Shadow missions vary much less.
What I do like is that people are encouraged to party by the massive exp some of those quests give. The objective based missions are pretty fun too, though they tend not to be very good for exp.

ITP: Archers aren't people.
Shadow Missions are kind of lame. I like the end-of-mission reward but they've made the game more solo-grind oriented.

Frankly, I'm a fan of shadow missions. No frustrating hunting of passes in order to run the harder stuff is a huge upgrade from the old system for me. And while yes, the surroundings tend to get old after a while, it's not like dungeons were THAT much different from one another. Yeah, Peaca's halls are very cool looking, but at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of hallways and square rooms. They're both boring.
Also, if you dislike the music, just change it. I haven't had the default Mabinogi music play in ages. Internet radio is my favored replacement.

It just gives people something to do when other people aren't on...
If people aren't on for Provocation i can just do Their Method to kill time.

One of the biggest points of shadow missions I hate, die to lag when you're alone and do it all over again.

Indeed, I also have considerably more lag in shadow missions (particularly the ones in Tara) So I prefer to stick to dungeons.

I can't believe how many people are saying Shadow missions are more Solo oriented. Prior to g9, all EVEYRONE did in Mari was grind Ciar Adv by themselves everyday all week long. Now, I have so many fun options to choose from. Have you guys tried running Spiders on hard? Its *swear* insane! I love how chaotic it can get. Its so much fun. Ghost is very unique! I personally can put all my fancy alchemy skills to use there. The boss for Other Alchemist is rather epic. But if you feel the need to solo grind you can at least do SCC instead of zzzzzzzz ciar adv. Also, fomor attack boss is lawls. Do you drop his defense down by infecting him with tetanus from rusted swords? lol

Tara Castle Shadow Missions are not places to solo in.
I actually feel normal dungeons don't encourage enough of partying and the rewards are not very fair. This is especially when the players get stronger. Ciar Advance is just one of the many examples. (Especially people rushing to kill bosses just for the drop like those stamp items.) I've always preferred shadow mission for this reason. Good stuff out of the treasure chests are up to your own luck, and not given to the first and strongest mover.

Shadow missions are okay, but as others have said it gets boring fast. I also hate that you can't res in them, I often rage quit Shadow Missions and just went to Rundal Hard mode simply because I don't have to start over if I screw up. :/

And I whole heartily agree with you on that. I wish they offered more for parties Dungeon wise..

I think I'd rather do a group run of alby adv hardmode or peaca than do a group run of a shadow mission though. For some reason, the dungeon atmosphere just seem less..."blah".
I also get insane lag in shadow missions compared to dungeons or normal fields in Uladh. And like everyone else has said, the not being able to revive thing sucks a lot.
-
Yogurticecream wrote on 2010-10-11 07:46
"not being able to revive thing" is actually the main factor that encourages partying. I don't mind that.
Even for players with service their Naos are limited.
