I understand this was dropped on the community quite suddenly, and that many of you have very reasonable concerns, and I'll make a post here in a bit and see if I can't explain some things to help ease some minds.
I understand that such a drastic change is a major shock to many of you, but... if you look at how much of the community has been lately, I think most can agree that some kind of change was certainly needed. I'll explain further in detail as to why this is the particular route we decided to go down, and what this particular route is, in my post later.
But for now, let's try and be civil and let everyone welcome the new staff aboard and let them enjoy that feeling, rather than the first thing they step into being a massive flood of drama to have to deal with. They had no part in the decisions made, but it will be put on them to have to deal with it when a massive deal is made out of it before time is even given to explain.
Just... go easy on the new guys.
As for the rules, they were given quite a bit of thought and they were put in place for very good reasons.
Not all of the new rules will be there forever. I'll explain the rule revisions in the post I will make in the somewhat near future.

I agree with Nutella.
On another note, I'm also quite disappointed that Phunkie is no longer a staff member here. u_u
I don't know (nor care) about how good (or not) he may have been at catching people red-handed and handing out infractions, but in terms of the positive and respectful image aspect, I think he made huge contribution to the team by improving community relations. I believe we're in a desperate need of people like that.

I have to agree with this. He was always so upbeat in staff discussions and like
Hey, no one's bad here!
He's just a sweetheart and completely likable. :) I'm sure some new staff members will be able to be like that, albeit not as much as he is/was (it's like he's gone for good or something IDEK).

I have really crappy memory so other staff might escape me, but Phunkie and Okami are the nation staff that always stood out the most to me in terms of positive moderator image and handling situations in such a polite, heart-warmingly nice and well-mannered way that everyone looked satisfied.

Hey guys, Lan here, just wanted to let you know that we'll do our best to keep the Nation running smoothly and efficiently but to do that we need your help! We can't be in more than one place at a time so the report function is our best method of knowing what the problem is so we can quickly resolve an issue. Reporting someone doesn't make you a "loser" or a snitch, it helps to reduce the amount of victims and is generally the polite thing to do. Not sure about my fellow staff members but we're here to be used and abused by our community, we may eventually be hated but we'll try to get the job done well with the least number of victims.
You know, seeing all the other new staff members I feel somewhat inadequate, like the least qualified person here. I'll still try my best but I've asked Arsik to fire me if I don't meet expectations.

I wish all the mods could have phunkies personality, but at the same time it can develop into a weakness for this kind of job. This pretty much happens to any staff, and likely will happen to some of our current staff as well. It can't be helped, it's part of being human. Other than being lazy, it's why I hate being a mod, and why I refuse to do moderator stuff unless it's urgent or a bot.
Not only that but people have lives, phunkie is a busy guy, so are the other staff. Combine these 2 things together and there's not much choice but to find new staff who will at least take some time to get to that point. I don't think it's something that can be avoided unless you're a robot.

Uh wow.
This was really unexpected. I kinda, don't feel good about this. But, uh. I'll just see how this goes. . I guess.

Sometimes we have to lose a bit of freedom and deal with things we don't like to get somewhere, I understand that, I just wish this could have been done in a more positive way that the entire community could feel supportive about. When I joined nation it was a great place, full of wonderful people, and it still is, but just because things have changed doesn't mean we can't work towards that goal.
At it's heart, the community is largely the same. Activity has kind of shifted to the general sections though, and thus, behavioral patterns have edged towards other, notorious forums. At the same time, with varying levels of staff activity, 'minor' things slip through despite the ability for members to report posts.
For that reason...I'm sure our future is promising.

I think it should be a rule for the staff that they should come on the IRC fairly regularly. It's convenient to discuss what is going on, and also lets people know what staff is active so they can talk to someone if they are having a problem.
A few of them already do.

Well, I'm a bit late to all of this. I hope I'll be able to meet the community's and staff's expectations of me as a Moderator and help keep Nation as a nice place for discussion. I look fowards to working with you all, so don't hesitate to send PMs about any concerns you may have.
In regards to Phunkie, it's not like Phunkie has vanished from the site. I think it's not only the moderating staff's job to help keep a positive enviroment, but the entire community's job. Even without being a staff member, just having a good attitude towards things can really help make the site that much nicer for everyone here. It's natural to miss him as a moderator, but I think we all could learn something from him.
