Whatever you're saying about bards, the melee instruments are useless. I'd rather have an unmodded sword in my hand than an instrument that has 6 max damage. Bards are hardly stand-alone, at least the bard part of it anyways. Sure you can play with all archer skills but that'd be taking away the whole idea of bard. The only good part about the bards is the new buff scrolls, which are costly, liable to failure, limited in time, and have mediocre effects at best.
And not to mention the instruments are melee weapons, completely useless to a pure ranged elf.
Some jobs are just limited in that fashion. Healers will be healers with their bolts. Their primary job is to heal people, not to protect them with fighting. If you had a good party with decent pet play then you shouldn't need to jump in to save their skins anyways.

G13 Having r1 bolt composer with your r1 bolts will make this class better. You will basically be able to do 2-3x your normal bolt damage and then turn around and use party heal and heal wounds, heal lifepoints for the win.

You can take Icebolt and substitute it as some sort of Holy bolt, since it's white(White Magic), and just say Holy Bolt while firing.

Looking at the stats for a Battle Mandolin, they're the same as a normal mandolin.
I am disappoint.
The way the classes are set up, I feel like bards are more shafted than healers, who can use bolts.
What can a bard do?
Buff their stats, adding at most 6 max.
Swing around a battle mando for that awesome 6 damage. Less splash than a broadsword ftw!
Use Ballad of Lure when it looks like you're about to die, get a 10 second breather, and then be swarmed by monsters after your stamina runs out.
At least healers can bring their skills into a dungeon, and are invaluable in places like Egg Guarding.
Bards are stuck in Dunbarton.

Bolt Composer needs a wand for the base element therefore healing wand won't do.

You guys don't know too much about the Battle Mandolin. You can't assume anything about it.
You don't know the upgrades it'll get. You don't know the damage it'll end up with.
The wiki doesn't even have the picture of it.
We shouldn't assume it sucks until we see it for ourselves.

Isn't blaze with healing wand pretty decent? Sure, it deals less damage, but it also takes a LOT less mana if you have the -mana consumption upgrades, and a mana reduc clothing set...
Healers, by definition, are a support class. Even if we ignore semantics, by using healing wand, you're limiting yourself to a specific skill set. Saying that skill set should be expanded kind of defeats the purpose of choosing to equip that wand in the first place. It's a matter of cost benefit analysis. Is that 150hp heal + wound heal + 10 defense to the entire party worth the damage one person loses? Is that person willing to act as support? Healers are a great class in and of itself, but yeah, it might come with the most sacrifices, for the benefit of the entire party. Also, golem using while party healing seems like a pretty good idea. >>

Even if it can get Walter's Mandolin Care 5 times in a row (LoL), it'll still be worse than a Clay.
...who actually plays a bard?
No one can. My point is that its not even viable, despite the
name of the game. Thus, more shafted than healers.

Bards can Magic Music their game away, or just lure monsters :s

It'll probably come with special battle mando upgrades, although I don't see where 1~6 damage can go.
And it's melee so it's extra useless for me.

To reiterate, magic music gives at most 6 max. Usually, it gives 1 or 2. It also lasts about 50 seconds.
Lure of the Ballad is the worst skill for solo play. When you use it, everything follows you around until you run out of stamina (and you will, unless you're a stamina monster because it eats through stam like no tomorrow), and then when you're done playing, everything swarms you.
The only use I can see for it is luring zombies to WM if you don't have WM ranked up yet.

Elves can kill almost everything with range alone very easily. Except those Zombies XD
@Chiri, Bards can't solo anything :s They would HAVE to be in a party to survive.

You're not adding in the miss-factor and the fact that a lot of sm monsters can't be damaged well with range.
And the low HP on top of that.
